I understand where AJ is coming from though. When you have expectations of a B1G title and you're consistently the top dog you don't celebrate that way. It was a great shot and much needed. However, it shows the state of where the program is atm, imho.

I'm all about celebrations but if we would have finished the game with tripping all over ourselves we wouldn't have needed that great shot. Too much of a roller coaster these days.

I just think kids want to celebrate after they make a shot like that regardless of expectations. I watched Kansas ( who has won 12 straight big 12 titles) go crazy after they hit the game winner against Kansas st earlier this year.

That is true. In my life I had never experienced a court rush until after Knight was gone. It's just a difference in opinion and a different age. I do know Knight would have flipped out before the 5 second delay had the players celebrated like that in the same scenario against anyone unless it was a title. I am not a fan of it, but it's whatever. I am getting old in my mid 30s.

I was there for the Haston buzzer beater against MSU. Court storming. It was my generation Watshot. It was fun. Lots of fun.

But looking back it just indicated where we were as a program and that we weren't so great.

I would agree with kids just want celebrate. It's cool to hit a game winning shot. Give me the kid that knows he's going to make the shot, give me the players who are pissed they let a lead slip away and needed a game winning shot, give me the kid who says "that's not good enough." That's what separates a decent team from a great or championship caliber team.

Do you think Josh Hart is walking off the floor angry if he hits a buzzer beater against, say, St. Johns? Or if Frank Mason hits one against Texas Tech? Because I'm willing to bet we'd see a similar reaction out of them that we saw last night. I do think what happens after the celebration is important, though. (And that could be your point and I just missed it) That buzzer beater doesn't mean we're good or great or anything. We have to hope we build off of that momentum and not relax because of it.

No, but I would expect both players to be upset if they pissed away a lead in that fashion. I don't see either team letting a mediocre opponent back in games the way we did. That's the difference in the programs at this point. Kansas expects to win their 13th consecutive Big 12 title and the reigning champs expect to close out games. We feel relief that JBJ bailed us out on offense after a piss poor showing to close the game on defense.

Yeah I don't think anyone is content with where we are right now so I get that. I don't want my take on it to make me look like I thought that was a great win or anything because it went from being a really solid road win to a fun, but also god-awful steal of a win in a matter of a few minutes. This season is just really teaching me to enjoy IU basketball in a vacuum because looking big picture is vomit-inducing and makes it not fun for me anymore. I guess that's why I'm all for the celebration, but I see the other side too.

That's exactly what Kansas did against Kansas st. They pissed away a lead and then needed a kid to take 20 steps for a game winning layup. The whole team was celebrating.

My unique background probably makes my view on this different than others. It also plays a part on my take of the job Crean has done. I was trained in "initial success or total failure." I just think if you have a group of players that is expecting to win the B1G and make noise in March they 1) wouldn't completely collapse like we've seen late in games and 2) wouldn't celebrate like Rey won the Super Bowl after a game winner against PSU, much less a dunk or good play in the middle of a game.

I read/heard somewhere that in today's college basketball if you find a group of mentally tough players that are willing to play hard and follow directions you'll win a ton of games. I truly believe this and I don't think we have that currently.

Yes, KU needed a LeBron James 8 yard rush up the middle to win that game. I see different expectations in the two programs. KU is expecting to win another Big 12 championship and a natty while IU is hoping to win the next game, even if it's after a terrible collapse and a bailout by JBJ. Neither should be celebrating what they did.

does it really matter if we celebrated like are we really breaking this down right now? I really think you guys are overthinking this its not a big deal it really isnt........bottom line we won and thats it. Im not trying to be "mean". I just think that the end result is still the same no matter what.

I would disagree that the end result is the same. Basketball is more mental than physical and I believe the team is just trying to get by at this point.

Change the JBJ "celebration" to a quick "shhh" gesture while walking back to the bench. How cold would that have been?

I've been in a buzzer beater before and it's exciting and we celebrated like crazy, but man a quick "shhh" and a stare down while walking off the court would've been dirty.

But we still won, that's the end result I'm speaking of

And I'm speaking on several different levels.

1) I get where AJ Guyton is coming from. The program is even further removed from elite status.

2) The mental game doesn't seem to be where it should be. (Focused on a game winner after a collapse)

3) The roller coaster of this season and the Crean era

I dont think Lionel would let that happen
