Unless he likes location better, it would probably have to be a significant raise to cover difference in cost of living.

State College is pretty bad, tiny town in the middle of nowhere.  I admit they are a big program.

Haines is interviewing at PSU. That will plain piss me off and move those diddling turds above Michigan on my IUFB hate list.

Haines is a good coach. I completely understand why PSU is interested. Hopefully during his interview Franklin effs up and presents a giant red flag. We'll see man. At some point we'll be doing the same kind of poop of poaching solid coaches.

Yeah, the more I've thought about it, I'd be more mad at Haines than anyone. I don't see a clear benefit to making that move. If it isn't a lateral move, it's pretty dang close. Maybe he gets some fancy "Assistant HC" title, but that's nothing more than a way to get paid more. If he was an eastern Ohio guy maybe I could see some ties from home/his youth? But he isn't. It would be a strange way to leave a guy you've worked for since 2017.

I can't blame anyone for answering a door when opportunity knocks. Especially if it's a nice pay increase. Hopefully he thinks IUFB is the better job.

He was at IUP for a couple of years. I'm wondering if his wife or something is from PA. Poop man, I don't even know if he's married. LOL.

It's not a money move. The cost of living is about the same and the salary would be about the same.

It's not a location move. Both are mega-universities in woodsy, nice, away from big cities areas.

It's not a 'can't get along with my boss' move. Haines and Cig have a long, excellent history.

That leaves two possibilities that I can think of:

  1. Chance to move to the top coordinator job in what is perceived to be a blue blood program.
  2. Haines thinks he's getting a little stale working with the same people for eight years and is looking for an excellent new experience. When someone is trying to develop their career that is a valid consideration.

Haines brings back basically every dude on defense that had the ability to come back. Mostly dudes he was with at JMU too. Gotta imagine him skipping one last ride with those guys would leave a sour taste in their mouths. If he was going to have Abdul Carter back at PSU maybe I could see riding those coat tails into a bigger HC job. I'm just not sure that PSU's defense will be much/any better than IU's next year.

Maybe I'm having a visceral reaction to the news. Maybe On3 (which sucks, much like Robbie Hummel) is blowing "interest" out of proportion? I'm not paying $10 to read their BS. I will say, I only saw interviewing specifically from a PSU blog or something like that so I could have jumped the gun there. Idk, bite me.

Apparently, Penn St interviewed Ephraim Banda after Haines. So maybe he ends up there, but it doesn’t sound like it was necessarily a confirmation interview.

Saw on Twitter that Matt Weaver wrote he isn’t going to PSU. I haven’t seen the article/post though.

He was tweeting approvingly during the game about how much the officials were letting go. Kind of assume if he was leaving he’d just lay low until an announcement. Feels promising.

The “Man Hold” tweet was gold.
