Popular Post akhosrof Posted December 2, 2016 Popular Post Posted December 2, 2016 The goodman deserves his own topic. His big day shouldn't be overshadowed by Glass and Wilson's quarrel. How about that introduction speech? WOW if there was ever the right man to lead IUFB, it's Allen. The situation with Glass and Wilson was weird, but I think we'll look back at this day as a jumping point for IUFB. The day we got our coach who was at the school for 15-20 years. He has that sort of potential. On Twitter it seems Ole Miss fans are happy for him, but they are disappointed he isn't coming back to be their DC. I know I was worried we'd lose Coach Allen this offseason to a big program. I'd rather have a year of growing pains as head coach and have him long-term than keep Wilson and lose Allen. Congratulations Coach Allen! Now let's go win a bowl game!NO Wilson/Glass talk in this topic. barrettballer Posted December 2, 2016 Posted December 2, 2016 Excited is an understatement! Have season tickets and had been talking about how much I loved Tom Allen and was scared he was going elsewhere, so I'm very excited and think he will do big things moving forward. chitown hoosier Posted December 2, 2016 Posted December 2, 2016 Shocked by the news but coach Allen deserves the shot. The improvement this year in defense is incredible and is the main reason why IU is bowling again. akhosrof, Diadem and lucel15 3 Quote

akhosrof Posted December 2, 2016 Author Posted December 2, 2016 How about the fact that he nearly cried when talking about the position? What an incredible and motivational journey. Coach Allen understands the responsibility of being the head coach of IUFB and everything that comes with that. Mentoring young men, helping high school football in the state develop. Only a matter of time until we start locking down these in-state kids.A Hoosier through and through. I think the big question that remains: what happens with the offense? Is Johns kept on as OC to call plays? Do we get a veteran OC to have complete control over the offense so Coach Allen can handle the defense? (Any ideas for OC?)Coach Allen was tight lipped what will happen with the staff after the bowl game. Just said everyone is staying on until then. I hope we can keep Hagen, Frey and McCullough.I loved how Coach Allen said he will leverage his background as a special teams coach to ensure we improve there. ThompsonHoosier Posted December 2, 2016 Posted December 2, 2016 Loved his comment about breaking through! I hope we are able to keep some of the coordinators and most of the recruits we have. I'm not too worried in terms of losing recruits considering most are on the defensive side. barrettballer and 8bucks 2 Quote
SteelerHoosier Posted December 2, 2016 Posted December 2, 2016 I absolutely love this hire. Loved everything about that presser especially his comments of being very involved with us at the HS level. 8bucks 1 Quote
Popular Post Hovadipo Posted December 2, 2016 Popular Post Posted December 2, 2016 This has me over the moon. I've been so excited about this program the last few years and tonight has me more excited than I was at any time over my building excitement. There's just a lot of...excitement. I really really think this will be the night that we look back at and say "December 1st, 2016 started all of this" in a few years when we compete for big kid bowls. Can't wait to see what direction we go with the OC. Allen surely has connections through the south, or maybe he keeps Johns, idk. Though it started out sketchy, great night to be a Hoosier fan. akhosrof Posted December 2, 2016 Author Posted December 2, 2016 Logically thinking... Ole Miss has co-offensive coordinators and Hugh Freeze calls the plays. Dan Werner (QB coach and co-OC) is a name to keep an eye on. Lots of experience and was on the same staff as Coach Allen for a few years in Oxford. With that said, this bowl game will be an awesome opportunity for Kevin Johns calling the plays. Watch us hang 50 points and Johns shows he should have been calling the plays all along[emoji16]Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app SteelerHoosier 1 Quote

I think if he goes and gets a new offensive coordinator he will look at smaller programs. I like Helton at Western Kentucky; has done a great job there and did a good job at Cincinnati before that. akhosrof Posted December 2, 2016 Author Posted December 2, 2016 You think he would leave Ole Miss though? No idea. Just throwing out a name of a coach with connections to Allen. Maybe Werner would want to call plays and be the only OC?I do like the smaller program approach as well. I'm excited to see how Johns does calling plays in the bowl game. Dalton26 Posted December 2, 2016 Posted December 2, 2016 Sounded like Coach Allen hinted at more of a ground attack too. Since we are RB U that won't be an issue and it will give our defense even more time to rest. hsrtxp and HoosierAloha 2 Quote
8bucks Posted December 2, 2016 Posted December 2, 2016 Assuming we had to make a coaching move - I love the hire. Also assuming he showed a lot of class and vision his one year on the staff helped Glass make the decision. Loved his passion during the presser. Think he can be a great ambassador for the school. Sure hope he wins here. HoosierAloha, SteelerHoosier, Stuhoo and 1 other 4 Quote
Brass Cannon Posted December 2, 2016 Posted December 2, 2016 Just watched the press conference loved what Tom Allen had to say. I think he and Crean are much more compatible and I'm sorry at a school like IU that can only help the football team. Love the fact he is so connected with Indiana coaches. Oh yeah for people wondering special teams at Ole Miss got better each year under him. He's not just a defensive guru guy just gets football. Would love for Clemson and Washington to choke this weekend and help set us up with a game against UK. What a chance to start his career as a head coach akhosrof and CR3AMnCR1MS0N 2 Quote
rebelhoosier848891 Posted December 2, 2016 Posted December 2, 2016 Welcome Coach Allen! We love what you did with the defense this year and you are a big reason why we are even going bowling at all. Great enthusiasm, football knowledge, character, and Indiana roots are a lot to like in our new coach. I for one am excited by this hire and can't wait to see what the Coach Allen era brings for IU football! Now let's go win a bowl game, build our staff, and get some new recruits! hsrtxp 1 Quote
