What a fun day! I started the trip leaving from Indy very early in morning and headed to East Lansing which is where I took that picture of the owl at their zoo (no screecher at game today which made it all the better). East Lansing is kind of blah and looks a lot like Champaign and West Lafayette campus wise. After that I moved onto Ann Arbor which is an awesome city. The campus has very nice buildings and the downtown of Ann Arbor in Kerrytown feels absolutely identical to downtown Bloomington with some new buildings, but many cool specialty local and ethnic restaurants and a charming feel. First Big Ten city besides Bloomington and Madison that I thoroughly enjoyed and city has lots of green space. The only complaint I have is Ann Arbor has a horrible parking situation that makes Bloomington's look not bad at all. It's impossible to find a space in Kerrytown and the lot to park in for the game after the tiny one at the stadium fills up is almost a mile away at Crisler Center. As for the game this team has absolutely brought it's hitting shoes this weekend. It was great to see us punch back with runs every time Michigan punched for runs. Fun back and forth game and it was cool to see Dunham clear a required roughly 30 foot wall in left field for a HR in ninth. This was after Gorski, again, just missed a HR in first inning off that very same wall that would of been out of any other stadium. Their stadium is also very nice and modern while staying historic looking with many renovations and has a great view of the game. Overall, it is great to see the team mix home runs in this weekend but not relying on them and also poke balls for clean hits around the park which is prefect approach. Tomorrow is now gravy and would be awesome, but this is now a very successful weekend regardless and winning the Big Ten is now very much in play. I will probably not be able to post tomorrow during game when I am back in Indy but we will see. As I depart dinner and get on the road for my 3.5 hour drive home it's been fun and I would definitely come back here.

Not sure where to start with this.... "A program needs talent to win?" Really?? You don't say. Do you honestly think I meant we don't need talent? Is that what you interpreted? I'll start with Franklin. You've never seen him play if you think it'll take a couple of years for him to be a good player. That's just truth. We just landed Phinisee, Jackson-Davis, Hunter, and Franklin. I'm not seeing this "struggle" you're selling. And no program will ever land "most" of anything, which is one reason I said we need the "right kids." The ones who can succeed in the Big Ten and in Archie's system as it evolves. You aren't the only one who knows IU's history, but here are some things that kinda' validate what I said. 1981, IU also had a whole lot of experience. Tolbert, Wittman, Kitchell, Turner, Risley, Grunwald, and Isenbarger were all upper classmen. 1987? Alford, Thomas, Jadlow, Sloan, Hillman, Smith, Eyl? Upper classmen..plus the two JUCO's...one of whom was 22 years old at the time. But....the real funny thing here is the title itself. Yeah, Daryl Thomas and Rick Calloway were both, in title, "McDonald's All Americans," but....Steve Alford wasn't. That kinda' throws a wrench into the theory, if you ask me. Alford had a legendary senior season that ended with a 57 point game in a semi state game with no 3-point line - at a time when Indiana High School Basketball was pretty solid - and became one of the best college guards of his era, and a 2 time consensus All American in college. There are hundreds of stories of players like this who didn't hold that moniker. Meaningless technicality of a title. At that time, with no internet, it was up to writers who had never seen a lot of the players, and as much a popularity contest as anything. Greg Dreiling, Greg Kite, and Tim McCormick were McDonald's All Americans. Charles Barkley was not. Numbers seem to mean a lot to you. How many top 50 (McD's All America caliber) kids participated in this season's final four? I'll wait while you look that up, since I'm living in some "pure fantasy." Oh hell...I'll help you. On 4 teams (each of which won their conference or their conference tournament), six total top 50 kids participated/played in this season's final four. Know how many of those Texas Tech had? In fact, know how many top 100 kids Texas Tech had? Zero. None. But they had a damned good coach who recruited to a system. You think Michigan State has built what they have solely with McD's All Americans, or maybe "getting old and staying old" with kids that fit what Izzo does has something to do with it? So much for your theory that Indiana needs "almost all highly ranked players." (That was a ridiculous statement by you) I don't think I said we don't need talent to win. Did I? I don't think I did. Indiana has and will continue to get its share of talent. But we don't need a lineup of "mostly highly ranked players." Is your point that we needed Quinones, or something else?

2019 Off-Season IU Roster News and Moves

I love that he’s finally being recognized and mentioned by someone outside of Bloomington. I have been high on him since he was a high school recruit (as I’m sure many of us have), and I concur with Lockdown...although I would go a bit farther and say he’s been mentally “ready” but physically unable to see his full potential come to fruition. His mental toughness and preparedness is what has made him capable of not throwing in the towel through so much adversity and to continue pushing to keep his hope alive of proving himself. I expect big things from Deron, and I hope I’m not wrong more for him than myself or the team. I like his attitude, perseverance, and persistence. He deserves a healthy shot to show people why he was so highly touted in high school. Stay healthy and put in the work, Deron!

Don't look now, Boot. We agree again. This is exactly how I feel. Kids have to fit, and this kid never seemed like he did or would.

But he does control the ball for most of every shot clock. Specifically, in the last 3 years he has had the 2nd, 10th, and 35th highest usage rates of ALL TIME in a row. I think it’s more that coupled with his style than conspiracy. Edit: To encompass the full 5 years, 4 years ago he ranked 77th all time in usage % and 144th all time 5 years ago.

Justin Sueing (California) announced his transfer to Ohio State). Will sit out the 19-20 season and have two years left. He averaged 14 points and 6 rebounds at California from the small forward position. Kind of hard to read how good he was....Cal was horrible (8-27). He shot 43% from the field and only 30% from three. Does get to the free throw line at a good rate.

Did you also see UK is now in the lead for Jaden McDaniels? That makes 4 recruits ranked higher than Keion. I'm not saying the kid should have went to IU, (personally thought he fit best at Michigan State) but my goodness who was giving that kid advice? He won't play more than 15 minutes next year...

Galloway is probably a little different then most that are from that area. He grew up in Central Indiana until his dad got the culver job. While he said he didn’t grow up his whole family were IU fans according to him. I think there was a picture last year floating around with him with an IU hat on. Definitely not a lock but I would say IU is in good shape. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app

Absolutely, I believe the Center position will be much better. A healthy Davis and Brunk give IU two legit big men. That has been rare over the last several seasons.

Your point about Zion brings up a point that is related. 1 of the reasons I want rid of 1 and done is I feel having these stars is bad for the league. I really feel that the superstar discount is beginning to get out of hand in officiating. Both Pro and college.

Sad. Man my age and I can't think of much more that I hate than UK. More now the 'hilljacks' that have invaded my lands with their smurf blue gear, arrogance and ignorance! Not even about bball anymore, goes deeper. So, you crossover and ya' dead to me!

Bitterness over a kid making a decision that he thinks is right for himself and puts him in the best position to be a professional is silly. He didn't owe IU anything. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
