So why all these comments from the program about how hard it is to lose Collin when they haven't said anything about the injury itself? It certainly sounds like a season ending injury but for some reason they won't just come out and say it.

In a nutshell, because medical information is protected by HIPPA, and well wishes are not.

My guess would be the fact they can't unless Collin okays it.

He may have not given permission for the release of details. Much like JBJ just last season.

The ACL bug has hit the IU locker room again. Seems like every year..

The one thing i'm worried about this year is injuries. We have some very injury prone players such as James, Josh, Tommy, and Davis. They all have injuiry histories that make me a little nervous.

Losing Collin is a huge blow to us. While he may not provide the greatest defense in the world, he was very good on the offensive end of the court. Freddie and Morgan will have to step up big.

HIPPA does not prevent them from saying he is out for the season. That statement doesn't include any protected health information and is a lot less specific than the statement they released yesterday telling us that he had knee surgery.

HIPPA is a thing that the healthcare world takes very serious and can be prosecuted.

Again, HIPPA isn't some overarching law that suppresses even the allusion to medical information. There is a very specific definition for what is protected health information. They are absolutely allowed to say whether they expect him to be out for the season or not.

Extracts from Indpls. Star update on Colin.      http://www.indystar.com/story/sports/college/indiana/2017/01/02/collin-hartman-return-season-would-really-hard/96080102/

Tom Crean admitted Monday that it “would be really hard” for him to see Collin Hartman return this season, after undergoing knee surgery in late September."

"..On Hartman, though, talk is more of redshirting than of a return.

“We talked about that from the very beginning, so that’s not anything we discuss now,” Crean said of the redshirt. “He’s put a lot of time into this program. It’s not anything we’ve started to look at and say we need to plan for this or that. It’s not like that. Not yet. Not now.”

Surprising to me since he's seemingly had an aversion to redshirting ever since his arrival.

Yep crean does not redshirt and as of right now he will have more player than grants. People will be creaned.

Is Crean staying quiet on this because he doesn't want it to affect recruiting? Seems like an obvious redshirt situation unless Collin decides to move on, which I can't see happening.

Family privacy act would be my guess. Same reason last year they never came out and said Blackmon tore his acl. If family doesn't want information released Indiana university can't release it
