IU @ Illinois Post Game

Recommended Posts

I didn't really have any issue with DD last night. I was glad he wasn't behind IUs bench.

I chuckled at a few of his comments, calling out Twitter folk, and the fist bump.

I prefer never to see ESPN utilize that setup again however.

Such a dumb gimmick. Get a broadcaster and a color man that don't suck donkey appendage and you won't have to worry about boosting ratings. Need more duos like Tirico and Dakich. That's my favorite team probably. I also liked Nessler and Dykes in the SEC before Dykes left.

Was at Yogis so couldn't really hear the sound. What prompted the fist bump between Dakich and Groce?

They didn't really elaborate or discuss it.  But I think that as the Illini player was shooting the three, Groce was yelling "No no no" but then the three went in and DD and Groce laughed and DD extended the bump.

Troy had two good overall games against Nebraksetball and pu.  Bad Troy caught the bus for the trip west.  He gave up at least 7 of the first 14 Illini points.  It's interesting that they went into UI actually game planning to attack Troy.  I can't imagine being in Crean's shoes re: Troy.  He sat down in the first half and IU goes on a run.  He gets injured in the first few minutes of the second half and UI gets an open 3.  After he leaves IU gives up something like 6 points in 8 minutes while running pretty good offense.  Was it just me or did not many people pay attention to Troy's injury?  It seemed as though he knew he was coming out after turning it over...

I noticed that, too. No trainer, no player or coach interaction really...

I know they called it a thigh bruise after the game but it seemed more like an ego bruise...

Troy can take this team to the next level if he is locked in. It's so frustrating to watch him wonder on defense while two frosh come in and lock in on defense.

Yeah, i think the only thing that Troy hurt was his ego and the staff knew it. That was a bonehead, normal TW play.

And i heard them say that Groce was going to focus on TW because they knew he couldn't guard diddly. As soon as he was out, our defense kicked in. I think the only reason he plays is for his rebounding and baseline jam. They beat him repeatedly in the first half and again when he came in late in the game. You are absolutely right when you said the first 7 points gained by Illini was because of him. I watched him and each time, he was beat.

It's absolute maddening when you think about it.  He has all the athletic ability one could need to dominate on defense.  Sit down in your stance, move your feet and +wingspan to disrupt your opponent and get your highlight breakaway jam.  If I were scouting IU I would run Troy off a screen and get wide open looks for my shooters.  I think the reason Yogi has been defending off ball more is to allow Troy to defend ball handlers to be a bit more focused.  It would be interesting to see how many open threes Troy has given up compared to the rest of the team.  To be fair, we gave up a ton of wide open right corner threes in the second half with Troy on the bench.

Edit:  I understand some don't like that Troy is constantly brought up in these discussions; however, he has the athletic ability to be completely dominating on that end and that is frustrating as a fan.
