The salad course came and SHOCK there was a dead frog in it. And I think I had part of the frog in my mouth for a second and now the waiter is talking about bringing out the main course but I can't stop tasting and feeling frog in my mouth and I don't want the entire dinner to be ruined and maybe maybe maybe if the meal is really superb it will make me forget but darnit, why couldn't the salad just go down easy?

 

So, I'm internally frustrated and not outwardly excited about this game at all, despite spending the previous week totally pumped. I'm mostly making this thread because next year I'll want to look at these individually saved numbers and this is the easiest way to find them.

I sure as hell hope we win this one. I drove all the way to muncie last week to buy tickets to the game. Never been to a big atmosphere game.

I am admittedly a little nervous the general malaise we are seeing right here in this thread has infected some of the students and they will not show tomorrow.

 

Maybe everyone else is feeling similar to what I am. Excitement over the prospect of being able to finally show what we're made of, nervousness over the prospect of falling flat on national TV again, and frustration over genuinely having no clue which is more likely.

 

Generally, my feelings are summed up as annoyance. I just can't take the inconsistency anymore. We could win out and I still would not approach a single game in the Big Ten Tourney or the NCAA Tourney and say "Oh, this is a game we will win". No matter what happens I'll think "This is a game we could win if Good Indiana shows up."

 

The lack of certainty in any aspect of this program from in-game play to the coach to recruitment to off-the-court questions is just more than I can bear sometimes.

I thought I read somewhere that the Big Ten used to do 9:30 tip-offs but did away with them because Knight was such a big critic.

Here are a few scenarios:

 

1.) We run the table through the rest of our schedule and head to the Big Ten tournament as a #1 seed. We walk through that tournament, and wait for our seeding to be announced in the big dance. At best, we're a #3 or #4 seed. Now, If every other team ahead of us in the rankings awoke to find they'd contracted terminal dysentery, we might possibly get a #2 seed. Does anyone honestly see us doing this? Me neither. 

 

2.) We somehow achieve that impossible pipe dream, and are awarded a #2 seed, (most likely outside of our region). Does anyone see us then running the table in the NCAA; against far superior talent than what the Big Ten has dished up this year, on a neutral court? Me neither

 

3.) We lose tomorrow against Iowa, lose again at Michigan State, then probably drop another one along the way. We exit the Big Ten tournament early, (because that's what we do), and end up making the NCAA tournament as a #7 seed. We enjoy one win, then get kicked to the curb by a mid major, (because that's what we do). However, Fred Glass, in a temporary moment of sanity, fires Tom Crean, saying the time had come to face the fact "he's taken us as far as he can", and most of Bloomington goes in to orgasmic elation at the thought of Brad Stevens having an epiphany. Though more likely than scenarios 1 or 2, does anyone see this happening? Me neither. Which leads me to scenario #4

 

4.) We play just good enough to stay in the upper stratosphere of the Big Ten. One game we're playing like we own the Penthouse, the next; like we should be consigned to the outhouse. We, as fans, vacillate between hope and despair, thinking we're on the right track one moment, then wishing we could tie Tom Crean to the tracks the next. We land the #5 seed in the tournament, and in true Hoosier fashion, blow out the first opponent, and lose to the next one, as Troy Williams loses the ball before he can get his pass to Thomas Bryant for a last second shot from half court. Tom Crean says how proud he is of this team, how they've grown, and made a commitment to defense, and how if only they'd listened to his instruction, they'd still be playing. Fred Glass nods in agreement, and notes that "we've got a lot of really good recruits coming next year". And just like the Purdue faithful have for the past fifty years, we nod in agreement, and look forward to next season. And honestly, isn't this the most likely scenario? Yeah, I thought so too.

I mean, while we're making things up anyway, we could lose out the rest of the season and win 1 game in the Big Ten Tourney barely making it into the Tourney on the bubble. Did someone say Cinderella story? We win another banner after finding our Good Indiana mojo late. Yogi records triple-doubles in every game of the Tourney, a feat never before matched, and Troy and Yogi go on to be top-5 picks, JBJ riding their coat tails in at 15. TB decides to stay because he wants to have a repeat.

 

Tom Crean is hired away by a team desperately searching for answers. Brad Stevens comes to take his place and takes Indiana to a repeat NC on the back of our second undefeated season.

All your scenarios has us winning @ least 1 in the dance, which is better thn last year. Tom Crean gets an extension and becomes the highest paid coach in CB. Glass saying "we have to lock him down". You can hear crickets in Assembly Hall during games because the fans have had enough. Bobby Knight comes back and says this is what you get for firing me.
