this is probably why I would never be a coach but at the end I would if almost fouled showater just to to put someone on the line that had not done anything and hadn't shot a foul shot. Everyone knew it was going to go to Hayes and we couldn't guard him without fouling the whole night. At least if you choose to foul zac it's on your terms and you still have 9 secs to win the game. Easy to say now though

I am unsure, but I am thinking Showalter had already fouled out at this point.

i thought he fouled out in ot. He was still in the game with a minute to go. Just watched on dvr but didn't extend past 2 hrs so didn't record last minute and ot. Regardless foul one of the guys that hadn't scored yet. Only 5 kids scored for Wisconsin.

Troy starts until the first stupid turnover or the first matador defense. The play right before the end of the first half had to be the worstdefensive effort i have ever witnessed of an Indiana player. He just watched a player drive right by him without any effort to stop, delay, or even whiff at him. As talented a player as he is, don't tell me he can't play defense. It takes heart and if he wont do it, he needs to sit. We have two other freshman more than willing to do the intangibles it takes to win. Him bringing the ball up the court is all on Crean though. His turnovers are courtesy of the green light Crean has given him.

The most frustrating part about Troy is his potential to be great but continuing to make freshman mistakes.  Once JBJ went down with the knee injury Troy's lack of overall basketball IQ.  His defense is bad.  There are three huge defensive plays that he just completely failed on.

- In the first few minutes or so Troy completely dozed off and left Koenig wide open for a three.

- A second half fast break for Wiscy resulted in Troy running away from the driving Wiscy player, WTF was Troy doing???

- Instead of Troy guarding the baseline and pushing Hayes to a help defender Troy got beat baseline and fouled.

Troy is a gifted athlete that sometimes makes spectacular athletic basketball plays.  However, more often than not Troy is made to look like a below average basketball player by decent, below average athletes, basketball players.  He is probably out of position on defense more often than he is in good position.  He doesn't value the ball, he doesn't have good balance, he doesn't make good decisions, and he doesn't take good shots.  Troy would get the first two to three minutes of the game to prove he is going to play good, smart basketball.  If he has his typical string of terrible defensive lapses and turnovers he goes to the bench until at least the under 8 timeout in the first half.  Troy is a talented player that can lift this team to another level but he can also hinder the team ball on both sides to the point of losing a game.

Has Crean been sucking up to  Boo Williams over the past few years so he has some sort of a recruiting "in" to that area?

(and in the process starting Troy etc cutting slack etc)

Like for a very long time?

Inquiring minds want to know!!!!   Lets hear it!!!!

I think it's as simple as CTC is fascinated by Troy's potential and the games that "good Troy" has had.

Hartman isn't starting because he can score, he's starting because he plays good defense, hits open shots, doesn't turn the ball over, and moves the ball on offense. Arguing that Hartman "is only good for 5 fouls" is selling short a key player on the team. Troy Williams, on the other hand, is a turnover waiting to happen. He doesn't shoot well, dribble well, or play defense well. Bring him off the bench and play him in spurts. Keep the ball out of his hands and get it to him cutting to the basket or on the baseline where his decision making is minimal. That's where he is best.

I will argue with you to my death that he's a good defender.

You're arguing that Troy is a good defender or that Hartman isn't a good defender? Either way you'd be wrong.

I like Troy to start. If he is rebounding and not causing TOs, great. If he is turning it over, OG gets more minutes. I also think OG could start in Hartmans spot.

I agree with all you've said here minus Hartman. I actually really like him. U can really see he is out there to help the TEAM. Yes he may not be as flashy and athletic as OG and Troy. CH helps the team more than he hurts us

Also want to throw this in. The other night I would've liked to see us adjust at the half and play JM and/or OG on Hayes in the 2nd half until one or both of them fouled out. I really think both of these guys would've done a better job than Troy and CH

A coaching failure would be to restrict Troy from handling the ball in games. The kid has potential and talent, but probably needs a shorter leash than he is being given currently. We have seen Troy recognize when he should slow down on a fast break this year. We don't see it consistently which is a big issue, but he has made improvements in his awareness.

He got worked, and I mean WORKED by Hayes. Saying he got his ankles broken doesn't co.e close. Hayes took dudes spine out. The effort and IQ are there, the athleticism And talent are not. I too believe OG should get his shot for Hartman instead of TDUB.
