2016 NFL Playoffs Thread

Recommended Posts

I'm still amazed that NFL players don't have the game awareness to recover a dropped pass like that. It's football 101

That backwards pass? The lame part is that the ref blew the play dead so no wonder only one player went for the ball. It would otherwise be the right call, but the recovery was easy because the ref blew a whistle

Latimer again coming up huge on special teams, saving that ball from entering the endzone and pinning the Pats on the 1.

I didn't know a play like that could be overturned if the ref had blown it dead.

It's a weird call, if this were a team I cared about, I would go back and listen for the whistle more precisely. I'm sure there will be an article somewhere. Once it's blown dead, it certainly feels like no one should be able to recover it.

True but these guys have to know they need to recover it. Don't give the refs a chance to decide the play for you

No they are taught to play till the whistle.  And they have to stop after the whistle for safety.  It would be silly to dive and fight for a ball after the whistle is blown.

Playing till the whistle is one thing; in game awareness and knowing the rules are another

That was such a New England finish until the very last play. So glad those ****tards are out.

Looked like Gronkowski stepped out of bounds before making the catch.

They showed a great angle from almost down the line during the replays and he was way in front of it, not even close to stepping out. I was sure he'd stepped out on the live play too.

What rule did the player break. The whistle blew the ball was supposed to be dead.

This explains it best.  Point #1

"1. Hillman not going after that ball is the height of laziness and stupidity. The old adage is that you play to the whistle. It doesn’t work in the NFL though, not when the league has decreed that plays taking place after the whistle are still reviewable. Hillman may not have gotten the ball had he pursued, but he had to realize it was close enough to at least try."

Yeah, I sat there and was like, meh that is a bad call. But I don't really care about either team so I didn't invest too much time into it
