He’s clearly a small-ball 4 Because the national guys have all seen 1, maybe 2, Illinois games and they see a 6’5” dude playing in the B1G and make a bad assumption. Every actual B1G follower knows the deal. Another egregious example from back in the day: Chuck Hayes at UK about 20 years ago was about as pure a 6’6” post guy as you’d ever see. And every Uk game the announcers would call him a wing or a 3 as he’s pounding kids on the block because he’d hoist up 1 bad 3 per game. lillurk 1 Quote

Kinda feels like the B1G is turning into a “haves and have-nots” conference more and more than it has been over the 20 years. IU, Illinois, UM, UCLA are basketball haves for sure. If budget rules Wisky, Minn, Iowa, Purdump, and NW are going to suffer more and more. Hardwood83 1 Quote

That’s one I don’t understand from Riley’s point of view. Illinois is loaded at the 3/4/5 positions and very weak in the backcourt. Riley is a 3 and his main are he needs for growth is size — he’s like 6’8”, 180. Not sure why he would reclassify and go to a program where he should be behind Tre White. Quote

Pretty sure he’s older than Bryson Tucker 2) As long as they’ve properly aligned his expectations, again using Tucker as an example, he’s better off developmentally in college than prep school. 3) He’s a stone scorer and those guys will always play. 4) Illinois has a war chest. They can outbid 95% of the country. Quote

IMO, Illinois' major need is for guards and this didn't help that. I think they are counting on the incoming shooting guard from Lithuania to hold down the shooting guard spot but if he can't I could see happening to them what happened to IU last year -- solid frontcourt but lacking in depth and scoring from the backcourt. He's only 6'6" and can't shoot a lick, can't make free throws, is an okay but not great rebounder. I don't know what Underwood saw in him that screamed starter last year. lillurk 1 Quote
