RBB89 Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 Seems premature to me. Another bowl game next year would warrant discussion of an extension. So far Wilson is Lynch 2.0:Lynch overall 19-30 .388, B10 6-26 .188, one bowl game appearanceWilson overall 20-40 .333, B10 8-32 .200, one bowl game appearance (and hopefully win)Lynch, while I liked the guy, took the team on a downward trend after Hep's momentum. Wilson is building the program up, and we haven't recruited like this in forever. Also, when's the last time we played such consistently competitive football against the best in the conference? Remember 83-30? southsidehoosier, Naturalhoosier, HoosierReb01 and 2 others 5 Quote

Hurryin' Hoosiers Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 ...Also we are not a "high profile" program. say what? :rtfm: Quote
Hurryin' Hoosiers Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 Dear Santa, thank you for this early Christmas present. Dear Santa, if you give everyone the same present, then it just feels a little less special. Kind of like those participation awards. HoosierReb01 Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 How is he supposed to recruit if his contract doesn't even last until the recruits are IU-bound? IU football just made a bowl game. Let's keep this guy forever.[/quote] I'm impatient I guess and have a low tolerance for sustained sub par performance (Thanks Coach Crean!). Other high profile programs have no problem hiring and firing coaches on the eve of bowl games, or even mid season, every year and seem to do just fine recruiting. I suppose I want us in the 100M olympic dash when we are still in JV level track as a program success wise, but we certainly shouldnt be chomping at the bit to extend at this very minute. We had this discussion a few months ago, it pretty much came down to this: With 2 years left on the contract, you either extend or you fire him. If it worked that way, it might be nice to ride it out for a year and make sure its not a fluke , but it doesn't. You either extend, or you fire. Quote
HoosierReb01 Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 I really don't get the logic that Wilson is doing alot better than Lynch, he is recruiting better but hes getting about the same wins. The same results with better players, make a coach better? That being said you have to give Wilson the extension. If we make a bowl game next year you give him another moderate extension. Sorry, I remember the Lynch teams that got blown way out, gave up when they got behind by 14, etc. This year, I watched a team that played their asses off, embarrassed themselves only once (Rutgers), and only had two losses that they were not within reach of winning late (PSU and MSU). If the trend is up, the record should follow. If the only thing I looked at was W/L record, I'd fire his ass in a heartbeat. But the product on the field is looking better and better. Fix the defense and bowling will be a yearly thing. Parakeet Jones, Naturalhoosier, MemphisHoosier and 2 others 5 Quote

drock161 Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 I honestly didn't like Wilson at all his first two years. To be a freshman and have to sit through a 1-11 season (and not even be allowed to leave the games early) was not fun. His attitude rubbed me the wrong way and he didn't seem to be making many friends for himself across campus. But something changed after that second year, especially in his personality. I actually started seeing him at pep rallies and events, he was more sociable, and he actually made an effort to get the students excited about IUFB. NS getting hurt during the Iowa game last year was a huge bummer, and while we should have had a back up plan, I understand why that season went down the drain. And seeing the team put up a fight at the end of a close game rather than giving up was really exciting see! I hope he gets the extension (and a decent defense). I would love for IUFB's motto to no longer be "snatching defeat from the jaws of victory!" mamasa, ThompsonHoosier, akhosrof and 3 others 6 Quote
HoosierReb01 Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 P. S. I doubt Bozich's 2 years turns out to be accurate, its probably going to be at least 4. 2 years is almost a vote of no confidence. Quote

Hovadipo Posted December 7, 2015 Author Posted December 7, 2015 Exactly 2 years is what homie at Illinois got. But Illinois guy's contract is only 2 years. Wilson still has 2 years left plus the 2 that are being reportedly added. Quote
Brass Cannon Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 4 years is something Wilson can tell recruits with confidence. I bet he gets another extension of we make a bowl game next year as well. HoosierReb01 1 Quote

Yeah, which means even if CKW gets extended 2 years, he's recruiting the '17 class without a contract for their last year. Quote

akhosrof Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 Great move. Ultimately the pay for CKW and his assistant is more important than the length. If IUFB wants to be respected, it has to keep its coaches properly motivated and pay its coaches comparable pay to other programs in the conference. As good a job as CKW did this season, he needs to continue to build. This upcoming season is pivotal for IUFB. Conference schedule goes to 9 games, so one less gimme game. Additionally, UMD and Rutgers are starting over with a new coach. We need to separate ourselves from UMD and Rutgers. Those games need to be wins year in and year out, like with Purdue! We then need to get to the point where we are stealing a game from OSU, Michigan, MSU or PSU each year. The other two conference games against NW and Nebraska will not be easy. The point remains, there is not much of a margin for error to get to 6 wins or more. But we are in a great position to be competitive every week!
