That is my fear. I am honestly afraid the University is scared that they will have another Bob Knight type figure head if they part with Crean. 

 

Crean has his supporters but he isn't anywhere close to the godlike status Knight had (and still does with many).  And, I believe CTC's supporters are far fewer in number and would be far less vocal.  Even they can't be pleased with the product we've been seeing on the court for far too long.

I think that you could make Buckley, Martin, or Judson the interim coach for the rest of the season. That would cost the university millions in pre-July firing buyout dollars though.

It's going to be settled no strings attached and be paid out over time. Get it over with.

I expected a little bit more out of Yogi in terms of that leadership. I don't know if he's the guy that can walk into that locker room and call people out or not. But I'm not sure who the legit leaders are on this team.

 

I think the answer is that there are no leaders at all.   Yogi, JBJ and Troy have already checked out of the college game and are getting measured for what they think are their NBA uniforms.  Max and Z aren't native to the IU program so may be hesitant plus they're gone after this season as well; the freshmen still feeling their way.  Process of elimination kind of dumps it on Colin and RoJo.

 

Someone early on asked where do we go from here.  After what we've seen from the 'Owie in Maui' and 'Debacle in Durham' it's getting close to calling in our resident theologian, Parakeet, and ask him to administer last rites on this season.

Not sure where else to put this, but this is a hot thread. Anyways...This is going to go very, very badly in my opinion.

 

ARGH the Crimson Guard! The freakin' organization specifically set-up to do all the crib sheets and chant writing I complain about constantly and only occasionally sets up free shirts. That you have to pick-up in tiny hour windows halfway across campus. Do they send you who the officers are? Because they are the worst and I want you to punch them and put their hearts in your fanny pack.

There are so many problems with our defense but I want to just call out one of them that frustrates me to no end, in the distant hope that a player or two will read it.  Several of our guys do it but Colin is the one that most comes to mind.  I don’t want to criticize but since the coaches can’t figure this out somebody needs to say it.

 

When as a team you’ve left a guy wide open for a three point shot, it does absolutely no good to run towards and then past him after he has released the ball.  Sprinting towards the sideline with one arm in the air after the fact fools nobody and results in you being, well, out of the play if/when a long rebound opportunity arises.  Please, guys, if it’s too late to influence the shot stay in front of the shooter and in the game…rather than running past him and falling out of play.  Please, please, please!!!!

But who is to say that those guys would come to Indiana at this point. People always want to characterize the Indiana job as an elite job and this program just hasn't been that elite program for a long, long time. It has been almost 30 years since IU last hung a national championship banner. Enough said.

$8 million is $4.5 million more than Stevens makes now. If you pay in the $5-$7 million range it's double or more the salary for Sean Miller, Marshall, or Bennett. IU is also a better recruiting school than WSU, and UVA. newly renovated assembly hall and cook. You can't say what if they won't come. If IU is serious about winning and offer top dollar, then yes they will come. It's never going to be a question of what if they don't.

Reading the first part of this article is very frustrating. These numbers are good enough for most teams to win, even at Duke. Then you see the rest of the story. Our defense gave up something like 1.55 ppp, historically one of the worst of all time for major college basketball. The defense was so bad that Coach K had no explanation for how well Duke's offense played other than to say they just scored. With a little pride and passion, this article could have ended on a positive Hoosier note just like it started.

Hypothetically, the Hoosiers were able to come up with enough defensive stops down the stretch to take down the reigning King of College Basketball. Duke and the Cameron Crazies started a new non-conference streak, 1 loss.

yes it was same thing with watching hmp let guys just shoot over him or try to take a charge when he could easily block the shot.

Oh I absolutely agree with your sentiment. We have seen that here a lot where people have openly rooted against Crean to the point where they want us to lose to say I told you so. I just think after years of the same patterns it is obvious this is a systematic problem with Crean. He did a great job bringing us back the right way in the beginning. He just isn't the coach to get us over the hump. I do agree though that he will not be fired mid season. I hope for this team to do well, but as has been seen Crean's teams have a tendency to fade. I can hope, but if this leads to say an 8 seed, it's time to pull the trigger.

 

I dont see him being fired mid season either. I do think that he has lost his team, at this point, and a change mid-season isn't going to make this season get any worse than it has already proven itself to be. I personally see it as the most reasonable thing to do at this point. Hear me out.

 

I'm sure making a change now wouldn't be something that the players would jump for joy over, but if we were to keep the remainder of the staff on board, I think this softens the blow. We are already in dire straights. How much worse can it honestly get?

 

On the flip side:

- The fanbase will have experienced some form of relief and will likely pull the reigns back some on their lynch mob mentality.

- There will be more butts in seats with Crean gone than there will be with him roaming the sidelines.

- The team may experience a wake up call of some sorts

- The interim coach can implement his system and it may be far more suitable for our personel than the one we are currently trying to implement.

- The job opening is open for longer, opening the door for discussions with other potential candidates, much earlier than would be if we wait until July. July is far too late for a coach to come in and pick up recruiting.

- Crean and his family are no longer subjected to what they are likely to be subjected to for the remainder of the season.

i think the answer to that is yes, because people will believe upper management is making a concerted effort to win/get better. Would we be better? Maybe, maybe not but at least we know we are trying.

I think this is the case for a large majority of the fans who are looking to make statements. It's just one of the ways fans show their distaste for the program and the coach. They boo (which I'm not on board with) or they stop buying tickets.

In my pipedream, Glass tells CTC he is done at seasons end. If, he stays ok, if he would leave, even better.

There is no scenario where I see Crean staying until July if a change is made. It makes no sense to wait that long. With the structure of his buyout being a $1 for $1 decrease with new employment, no reason to wait.

If a change happens I see it going down two ways.

1. Crean is let go after spring semester starts which will keep the younger players from transferring. Interim coach through the season.

2. Crean coaches till the end of the season and let go after all contractual negotiations that may take place.

Absolutely it would change my opinion. I actually said no to season tickets on multiple occasions this year. My wife asked me several times If I wanted to get them and I said no. I went to the Creighton game this year, only bc I was given free tickets.

Every year I look for tickets to multiple games on the days that I have off, and to this point I still haven't even looked at tickets. Normally by this point I have picked out the games I want to go to and have the tickets in hand. If they were to fire Crean at this point I might actually look at some tickets to the games to show some support to the University.
