State of Recruiting/Do Rankings Matter?

Recommended Posts

Not sure where to put this but this is interesting.

Crean also made reference to potentially adding someone. Was vague, but it's worth mentioning. IU has a scholarship open. #iubb

Is Donovan Hale still planning to play basketball as well? I thought I remembered him saying that was part of the reason he chose IU

With that back injury I wouldn't expect to see him this year if he is.

And now my reply from the other thread, with the snarkiness appropriate for this thread.

Yeah, Bo had 1 AA and 0 banners and Coach K had 30 and 2 banners (or 3 depending on how they counted the AAs). So, maybe rankings matter sometimes.

also Bo's deepest run in NCAA came with one of his highest rated players ever in Dekker.  Granted Kaminsky was every bit as important and probably more important that Dekker but just an interesting coincidence.

I believe Dekker was to be a Senior this year if he had not left.  Might have changed things, might not.

@Janitorinthegym: @Poppadontpreach he wants him to transfer .. So he can use his scholarship ... Tim is the nicest guy and quality young man

In regards to Crean maybe being peeved by Priller obsession.

I am sorry but that would piss me off if true.

yeah mdn, that may be the point.  I think it would make most IU fans mad, and that is why it will be harder to do it.  Generally, with players at the end of the bench that get no play, fans are perfectly fine to see them go.  This is an interesting predicament, IF INDEED, it is a predicament at all.

I think everyone forecasted that Priller would be a roster spot/transfer candidate from day 1, just like April.

Crazy odd commitments from Priller and April to begin with.  Whenever I see fans talk about how great Crean is with recruiting, these are 2 that pop in my head immediately.

While talking to many people in the college basketball world ( coaches, scouts, media) most agree rankings are fan driven. They are made for fans. As one put it fans like to have a visual of where there fans stack up with other rival fans. No coach I talked to would say that they put stock into paying attention to rankings when they are on the recruiting trail and most the scouts have told me there isn't an exact science and there really isn't a way to see everyone. Most national scouts have a big area that they cover with local scouts under them to recruit locally. All the locals meet with the national scout a couple times a year in a meeting usually right before a new ranking is being released. Rankings should be a guideline for people to inform the own conclusion about a recruit

Couple of really talented guys in Top 25 who play with so little effort, not worth money they'll be bought with.

Not a "rankings guy", Dinos, would never recruit by rankings. Recently saw a "Top 60" who will play in NBA. I understand your frustration
