GOP Debate...

Recommended Posts

Stu, I'm glad you showed up. I feel like we have similar enough views in a lot of this that you are a good replacement for me. Your first post was right on the money.

But he doesn't, he just publicizes his wins and is able to hide his losses. He absolutely had a free lunch. He had rich parents who gave him millions of dollars to invest how he wanted and didn't have to shoulder any of the risk of losing that money. When he did lose money and have businesses he ran or purchased go bankrupt, there was always more money. This is not a model for any other Americans, it's a model for a very select group. Omar and Bubbles can't just start investing in Coke, there are dozens of artificial social, legal, and economic barriers preventing them from doing so. For the most part, once you sink into poverty it's exceedingly rare to ever lift out of it. And if you have "extra" money, you can't afford the risk of losing it. Whether you consider them average Americans or not is the real question.

And look at the countries without Christian influence that are successful (Japan, South Korea). It's a fallacy to find failed countries, pick one aspect of them, and declare their failure to be part of that aspect. And India and the Middle East both have amazing conditions if you aren't in the lowest classes. Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain? All have some of the lowest murder rates in the world and very few Christians. Heck, even India you're like 130% more likely to be murdered in the US than in India. Venezuela is 98% Christian and has a murder rate 11 times worse than the US and nearly 100 times worse than the Middle Eastern countries I just listed. It isn't as simple as saying things would be better if we just had more Christians.

But the goals and abilities of a business are totally different than those of a country. A business exists to maximize profit and benefit particular groups of people. A government exists to maintain order, ensure certain rights for all people, and undertake unprofitable tasks because no business would touch them. You think a government run like the business would have created the interstate system? NASA? 90% of the Military? Those are money sinks with no benefit to the "business" aspects of the government. If Coke paid over 2 millions active and reserve employees to stay trained and ready just in case they ever needed them, the CEO would be fired within 5 days. Government exists because private contracts and business simply can't do all the things they do.

Omar and Bubbles have a fantastic opportunity to be rich in this country. Quit making excuses. I know because I did it! Nobody handed me a dime! No gov'y program. No inheritance. I sacrificed, lived well below my means and worked my butt off! Took it upon myself to learn and invest wisely. I'm 42 and no longer work a full time job. Oh, and just a high school diploma. No Harvard business degree. How do you think I have so much time to spend on this board?

Cuban has said he'd run against the Donald as a Democrat. They apparently do not like each other.

Do they really not like each other? He just let Trump use his arena for one of his speeches. Cuban is one democrat candidate I would actually consider voting for.

Just because you did something doesn't mean everyone could. What was your original financial situation? Where did you live? What was your skin color? Ever do drugs? A high school diploma, so you didn't have to drop out of high school to provide for your family? Well, I sure wish Omar and Bubbles had that opportunity. No one said you need a Harvard business degree, but the opportunity for your success simply does not exist for everyone. That's even totally overlooking that the modern economic situation of the country is very different than 20 years ago.

Warren Buffet started with less and he's one of the richest men in the world. Why aren't you? Can't you do the same as him?

Looking back and saying "I did something so everyone can" is the biggest problem with the Baby Boomers. The entire generation is blind to the real struggles people go through everyday because they believe they earned everything they have.

What do you guys think of Fiorino?

I honestly have not paid any attention to her.  The one big thing she did worked out so well, and caused so much turmoil within the company she was fired within 3 years of the merger.  Not what I would call a glorious start to a potential political career.

Excuses to fail. My advantage was I live in America. Same as yours. I managed to create the biggest part before I had internet. Kids today have it easy.

I'm half as old as Warren Buffet. Come on guy, we gotta let compounding work. Check back in 40 years.

I'm baffled by her. By virtually every account she did terribly as the CEO of Hewlett Packerd and has no political experience (I know some see this as a positive, but I remain firm that a knowledge of the systemic capabilities of the executive within the system is critical to presidential success). She's worth watching and I think she has a strong chance to end up on the ticket as VP, especially if she's used to balance against the perceived vaginal advantage of HIilary Clinton.

Whether we admit it or not Christianity has been a fantastic moral compass for this country to be successful. We are losing that. Look at China with no Christian influence. Human suffering on a massive scale. Or India or the Middle East where they live like they did 2000 years ago. We are allowing those influences to take hold in our country in the name of tolerance.

Truth be told this is a myth. It was good people and nothing more. They new they needed separation from church and state because of the crap they endured "in the name of God ".

They wanted diversity of ideas they even emphasized it in our first currency when they wanted the motto to be "Out of many , one" . It wasn't " in God we trust" until the 1950's during the fear of communism. McCarthy used this fear to destroy many lives by pretending to have traitors names on hand. All in the name of Christianity.

Christian faith people have given this country so much but so have people from other faiths and ethnicities . What's the common theme? We including Christians when they escaped the Church of England looked for a place to express their beliefs and ideas. We are country of diverse people with diverse ideas and that needs to be more reflective from the people who represent us.
I've been around the world three times over and there is one common theme. In every place u have you're good people and your jerks who only care about themselves. I prefer a country with many options not just one.

I expect she will be demonized for being in the corporate world. Quite a double standard. Hillary has done nothing but live on the backs of the taxpayer.

In Philly? Not as good as L'Angolo, but I mean, like whichever one you can find parking by right? Both have very high quality if a little overpriced food. I usually preferred the holes in the wall in South Philly though who were just using their grandmother's recipes and not trying to get all fancy.

Carly Fiorino? She has too little support to win the nomination for at least 8 years and will be slaughtered in the general for her mismanagement of HP. She had a poor showing as a senate candidate, might still be in debt from that race, and had most of her staffers say she was horrible to work with.

If she is ever President, then at least IU will have had 5 back-to-back championships. Because we'll live in a fantasy world.

You have to be kidding me. That's an incredibly out-of-touch answer. Have you ever even visited a truly impoverished area? The bad parts of Gary? South Chicago? West Philly? West Baltimore? Deep Queens? Decatur? Have you ever talked to someone who was forced to drop out of high school by their economic circumstances and can't even get their GED because they have to work too hard to have time to study? Maybe you need to use some of your free time to get off the board and do some boots on the ground charity work like CHRIST would have.

Elizabeth Holmes is a mid-30s college drop out billionaire and has been a millionaire since age like... 22. What's your excuse? Why aren't you a billionaire if everyone can do it? Or is it possible that people in different circumstances have different opportunities for success?

Excuses to keep people in poverty. As a matter of fact I have been to some pretty rough inner city areas and Appalachia doing missions work and spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Nothing like living in America where everyone has the chance to succeed financially and hear the Gospel so one might find eternal salvation through Christ Jesus. Just hope future politicians don't infringe on such blessings.

Yep until Martin Luther in the 1500s in Germany the Holy Roman Empire had a solid stranglehold of the known world still. You don't get that way by being good Christians. You are correct about the Church of England. Also truth be told JFK was the first Catholic president. Modern religion and leadership is a new thing. This country was built on people getting away from Europe and advancing themselves without the church holding them back.

And my parents thought my History minor was a waste... The one good thing about IUs History courses is they were based on points in History and how they were related to religion. I am not overly religious due to the historical atrocities in the name of God. If you do anything in the name of God people will follow. IMO that's sad and defeats the reasons religion was first made. When Jesus was around there were over 190 religions around due to the bad living conditions of The Roman Empire. Christianity stuck. The church took over and it became the Holy Roman Empire who did far worse things than Rome. Look at Popes from 200-300 AD and see how many Popes were killed. See what made one a Pope until 1500. Religion as a concept was meant to give hope. But when you are told the only way away from this hell is through us, we'll that's powerful, and not what this country was built on.

Edit:  There is one more thing.  ^^^^^ This is why our constitutions is built on freedoms as opposed to religion.  ^^^^^^ This is why when the French Revolution happened they used our Constitution and our delegates who developed the Declaration of Independence to help outline their Constitution.  The French Revolution was the Middle Class fighting against the rich.  The rich in those days in Europe were those involved with the church.
