Stuhoo Posted April 23, 2016 Author Posted April 23, 2016 Also, it's more about reps and you have to be willing the shoot until the lights go out. That likely was not Stan. Stan had different plans when the lights went out. Hoosiers219, WayneFleekHoosier, Bobman1 and 1 other 4 Quote

Worse in college. Buckley can't fix everyone. Also, it's more about reps and you have to be willing the shoot until the lights go out. That likely was not Stan. I am not saying Durham is the next Stan by any stretch but it is fair to point out the FG shooting has been bad consistently of late. That's all I'm saying. It's a major area of improvement and likely not a strong suit for him. Some shooters are naturally gifted, that doesn't appear to be Durham. That's all I meant. I think it was Shakespeare who said comparisons are odious. Or someone said that. Anyways, last point is definitely fair. I guess I just don't want people automatically assuming Al will be as deficient as Stan from deep because I don't think that is fair. He is a different player/person. Which brings me to another point... I've talked about this before on here and on HSN and went on like a 1000 word rant with regards to Yogi freshman year....something people rarely talk about is how much of shooting is mental. Confidence, and lack there of, play a huge role in shooting percentage. It's a volatile aspect. Stan had form issues, no doubt, but he was also in his own head in a bad, bad, way. Stan didn't make a single 3 his last year at IU. MadAboutIndiana, Stuhoo, WayneFleekHoosier and 2 others 5 Quote
WayneFleekHoosier Posted April 23, 2016 Posted April 23, 2016 Yes. My Stan reference was an extreme point to illustrate that shooting coaches can't fix everything. Counter argument that just happened to be in the Durham thread. I have not seen enough film of Durham to know much. Just going off stats and limited highlight reel stuff. hoosierpap 1 Quote
WayneFleekHoosier Posted April 23, 2016 Posted April 23, 2016 Based on first person accounts, he is a great player. That's what I'm expecting. Just not a "shooter" per se. Quote
Class of '66 Old Fart Posted April 23, 2016 Posted April 23, 2016 Shooting woes continue for Al. Only 2 of 13 from the field; 0 for 5 on 3's; scored a total of 5 pts. in 78 - 67 loss to Team CP3. Also had 2 assists and 2 TO's. Must have been an unusually officiated game as Al and 2 of his teammates fouled out as did 1 on CP3. Quote

WayneFleekHoosier Posted April 23, 2016 Posted April 23, 2016 That makes 6-30 in past 2 games. Definitely having a rough patch of games. Not going to elevate his status and ranking with these performances. I feel bad for him. Was probably really looking forward to showcasing himself. It's amazing how much emphasis there is for 2 months of basketball. Quote
Walking Boot of Doom Posted April 23, 2016 Posted April 23, 2016 You are kidding yourself if you believe the NBA scouts feel his shot is developed. Actually said nothing about the NBA. Just said his shot is much better. Chill Kepner 1 Quote

Class of '66 Old Fart Posted April 24, 2016 Posted April 24, 2016 Durham's Southern Stampede team beaten by CIA Bounce 100 - 76. Durham with 29 pts.; 4 assists; 3 reb.; 2 TO's; 1 steal. He was 7 of 13 from the field; 3 of 6 on 3's and 12 of 18 on free throws. I assume he was very actively attacking the basket to get to the line that many times. Also of note, this was the second consecutive game in which he fouled out. IUsafety 1 Quote
