(2017) SF Justin Smith to IU

Recommended Posts

I definitely think Smith plays the three but could see time at the four. I think JMo can play the three or four too. I guess the wildcard would be McSwain and where he plays. Can he defend bigger fours using his athleticism and experience?
Contingent on who returns

4 - JMo, Smith/McSwain
3 - Wilkes, Smith/McSwain

That's a solid group that would probably rank as one of the better groups of 3/4 in the B1G, if not the nation.

If that was the group, I would fully expect Freddie to get considerably more run than Smith during Smith's freshman year.

I know this is talk no one wants to hear but to me the reality is, if any big ten team sans Rutgers or Northwestern started their class with Smith and Durham I wouldn't bat an eye.

I am talking out of both sides of my mouth here because they both seem like great chemistry, high IQ kids with potential and I like that.

But, We sorely need a Wilkes or Bamba or something to make a recruiting statement imo.

Can the students at the football game get a "We want J Smiff" chant going?  I guess just having students show up and stay for the game is a big step though...

I definitely agree with this but it's sad to say majority of the students down here don't know the freshman on this year's team yet, let alone recruits

Absolutely. But if the class as a whole ends up something like Waters, Durham, Wilkes, Smith, and a quality big man then that would be a very nice class. I wouldn't judge it off of who the first two to commit were. I really think Wilkes is coming

I hope you're right.

Doc, I know you are always trying to find the doom and gloom portions of our recruiting, but this I agree with %100.

Thanks. I honestly try to keep a "realistic" outlook vs a "doom and gloom" outlook.

This class is far from finished and I know that too.

IF each class (Crean's style) had a 5 star type (Bryant), and hard working 4 star type (morgan), and home run steal with (OG) that would be ideal. This class is soooo much better than it looked on paper. If Crean continues to get those results even I will stop complaining about the rankings.

Isn't Smith a 4 star? And Durham is a 3* right? This would be a good start to the class. Pull in a 5 star (Wilkes) or 2 (Bamba?) and a pg (Waters, also a 4*) and we're looking darn good.

He is by some services. I don't mean to make this a big deal. I like Smith. I want Smith. I just want a Wilkes or Bamba type to go with.

We may lose 2 5 star players and another that is capable of playing like one. That is a lot of talent to replace.

I've been saying that for awhile. However, keeping them around is key. If we lose both Bryant and OG then.... yeah. It's awesome they were good enough to go but not good for replacing them.

Also, many complained about the Oladipo and Sheehey class as well. That was a solid class too.
