Devin Davis cited for marijuana possession

Recommended Posts

@Stillman~ It is a big deal. The team was told "Zero tolerance". Yet once again, a player (insert any name) broke a FRIGGIN regulation that the NCAA says is punishable. It doesn't matter if "marijuana is commonplace in college or out of college". If you want to play in the NCAA you have to abide by the rules/regulations. If you break a rule, any rule....you should face punishment. The rules have NOT been adhered to with Indiana men's basketball. Rules continue to be broken. As a leader, you have to assume responsibility and take responsibility for your actions (your team's actions). Leadership 101

If you do not lead, you are not a leader....you are an oxygen thief and let someone else lead. Leading is dishing out punishment to people who break the rules. If they cannot adhere to the rules (for which they sign a letter of acceptance every year) then you cannot be a member of that community. They chose to play DIV 1 basketball and so if the NCAA says, "to play, you cannot eat cake on Friday",.......Don't friggin' eat cake on Friday! wait until you graduate or leave school before you eat cake!

Alaska did you read my post where I said specifically that the punishment laid out in what I quoted was correct?

Please spare me the lecture on leadership or anything because clearly you lack the reading comprehension to actually read my post and understand my point. Devin should get a 4 game suspension and whatever internal punishment is needed. What he did in the grand scheme of things was not that big a deal but yeah it is punishable. My point is it would be a shame and a disservice to Devin to kick him off the team for something so minor.

Some of you seriously need to get off your high horses and take a deep breath. That or continue to lecture a poster on the internet about leadership.

Can someone point me to an instance in college basketball or football where a player was dismissed for what Devin did? Honestly curious if there's any precedent for that and how it matches these circumstances. I would guess it'd be hard to find but I could be wrong.

Sigh, all disappointment aside I just hate that we're on this topic again just like last summer and not talking basketball.

Shame on us for our lack of focus. Tell these kids to stay out of the weeds and we can talk basketball in the off season. Otherwise, this is what we get. Again. And again. And again.

I hope you're kidding. There's nothing anyone on here could've done to prevent this

In my opinion I would tell both of them to hit the road at this point they are just using two valuable scholarships

The ignorance is amazing. If they kicked off every player on every school that smoked pot they would have to end college basketball.

Screw the laws. Screw the NCAA regulations. Let anarchy rule.

You realize that even it is legalized, there will be age restrictions - just like alcohol. And NO ONE under age abuses that, either.

It's not about anarchy. It's about punishments matching crimes.

The punishment does fit the crime. This is not a single isolated incident. This is the same group of kids who have been through this multiple times over the past 2-3 years. If, in fact, and as we've been told through official channels, there was a zero tolerance policy instituted, any transgression will result in the nuclear option. Davis was involved in the Halloween incident last year after having sat through the lecture earlier in the evening. Hanner has had his transgressions widely publicized. Not the first rodeo for either - and the whole team was supposedly put on notice.

And now it's time for Crean to "put up or shut up" about the matter. Either he is in control of the situation and what he says matters, or the inmates are again running the asylum.

Multiple incidents or not kicking a player off the team is really extreme for a misdemeanor.

So you're saying just cause "everyone" else does it and doesn't get caught but we do it's ok to do it? The reason the program has problems all the time is for excuses half of you are saying. It's not just you but damn man when does it end.

If a zero tolerance policy was clearly put into place then it doesn't matter if it's a misdemeanor.  Ask The General about zero tolerance policies and Myles Brand and Knight's dismissal wasn't near the level of a violation of law - misdemeanor or not.

Guilt by association is and always had been the chicken sh*t way for it to work.

So you're telling me a senior who is with another teammate in the same room pot was smelled and found, doesn't mean he should be punished, you're out to lunch my friend
