So with Yogi back, IUBB still one scholarship over and Crean says he is still recruiting. When and on who will the next shoe drop?

Heard a lot of people talking about April being gone, supposedly is in the works......

So number one rule of Creaning, don't talk about Creaning?

LOL fair point. Just saying if April leaves, we are good for the season. I would imagine if someone else comes in, someone will come off scholarship and is okay with that. I doubt anyone else would be forced out at this point of the year.

Why does someone always say, they think someone will come off a scholarship voluntarily.  The odds of this happening are like being struck by lightening.  That is just not the way Coach takes care of the over sign situation.

Part of the Fred Glass edict about honoring contracts and scholarships was that a player would keep a 4 year scholarship if they committed. There wasn't a promise they would be part of the basketball program, only that they would be on scholarship.  If they choose to leave to play basketball, that is on them.  I think April could play somewhere, but I don't think he would be a star in a D1 program.

1)  They would not be able to stay on the BB team at all, if they moved to the other scholarship.  That would violate the scholarship limits, so no gain there.

2)  The other question I've always had about the non-athletic scholarship offer.  Does that one include room and board or just tuition?

I think that scholarship offer is a good thing.  I support it fully, just not sure it is comparable to the athletic scholarship.

I'd be curious to see how the NCAA reacts to that. Does anyone know if there's a legitimate process for converting an athletic scholarship to another type (academic, etc)?

I'm not trying to be negative, I am really curious about the reaction from Indy.

What about Thon? Do we still have that half-year scholarship left over from Luke Fischer? Would that work?

No. In the NCAA's eyes, scholarships are for a full academic year. When Fischer left, the "remainder" of that scholarship went unused, though I think Crean could have given the remainder of it to a current walk-on player (not 100% sure about that). At the start of the next school year, scholarship counts started over again.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe Fischer's second semester scholly went to Jeff Howard.

My guess is the NCAA would have no opinion. If the kid leaves the team and goes on an academic scholarship it would no longer be an NCAA issue. If the kid tried to stay on the team as a walk-on I would imagine the NCAA wouldn't allow it.
