Indiana Improving Year by Year?

Hear me out... We all know Cody Zeller was a HUGE get for the program and created two outlier years for the program. If you remove those two Zeller years, here is what we are left with...

2008: 6-25
2009: 10-21
2010: 12-20
2013: 17-15
2014: 20-14
2015: _______

Which would put us on track for a 23-8 or 24-7 path for next season. It's not crazy to remove the Zeller years, given the type of player he was.

When you do... The growth of the program is actually legit. Stats can be fun in this way, but after seeing this, if Crean stays... I have a glimmer of hope :)

That's good and all but even in the best two years with Crean at the helm IU is TIED FOR THIRD!

By that argument if you ignore the Zeller years that means it took 5 years for Crean just to have a 20 win season, which isn't the bar that it used to be, and Zeller clearly saved his rear.

I guess we should remove Watford, Hulls and Victor as well? To Crean's credit he assembled a very good team of players and the team just couldn't accomplish getting past the sweet 16. Maybe the true outlier is the entire team?

it was a good effort. I actually stopped to think about it.

But the better Breakdown is it takes 3-4 years to build a good team. Year by year breakdown

In today's game with Frosh being so good, it shouldn't take 2 or 3 years to rebuild.

Even taking out the two years with Zeller, look at all the other talent he has had. This year's team had just as much talent as any other team out there

Do not look at the other talent on the team or his team's underperforming. Simply look at the improvement year over year.

Any person who didn't follow IU would see those 5 records and say that Indiana is improving and rebuilding at a decent clip.

Based on where we started, Barney Rubble could have improved this team. And arguably faster. 6, 10, and 12 are horrible.

Syracuse just got hammered and they will be very good NEXT year. It took us 4 freaking years.

Our record has gotten better.. but our schedule is still pretty easy at the start of the season. Sure we had SMU and GTOWN.. but still. We need a few more cookies than cakes if you get what i'm saying.

41 brings up an interesting point. Let's count Crean's first three years. Alright, so he started off in the literal basement with 6 wins. He steadily improved that to 25 wins. We lose most of our most talented team in maybe a decade, and he only wins 17 games the following year, and then improves to 20 wins the next year. If he can retain his core and get a big man, another 23-25 win season is possible. Is Crean trending towards creating a program that bottoms out at 20 wins? These are important questions when you start considering our alternatives to Crean. What would be their floor when they start? Definitely an interesting take.
