IU Hoosier41

Tom Crean Update from Fred Glass

Recommended Posts

It has been upsetting to me to see the personal attacks aimed not only at the coach but also players.

It has been a long time since Indiana was truly an elite program-1987 was a long time ago.

We had a flash in 2002 and a resurgence in the all-to-brief Codipo reign-the base was too weak to sustain.

Rebuilding from a low level and yes, making progress-a long way from the depths.

With some inside talent with size and maybe a few changes by the coach this team in 2015-2016 could challenge for the BIG14 crown and make a long Dance run.

Social media allows views of the fan base-right now that view is mean and hateful and negative- not the powerful positive ever-supportive Hoosier I have known.  The view may be so negative to scare a recruit-away.

I say be positive and supportive-show some love.

After all, the are Indiana University basketball coaches and players.

They are what we have and they need our support to do the best job they can.

Some fans on here think Bobby is the greatest. What do them fans think of this?

'94-'95 > 19-12/11-7. First round exit.
'95-'96 > 19-12/12-6. First round exit.
'96-'97 > 22-11/9-9. First round exit.
'97-'98 > 20-12/9-7. Second round exit.
'98-'99 > 23-11/9-7. Second round exit.
'99-'00 > 20-9/10-6. First round exit.

He at least made the tournament six years in a row. Back when it was much tougher to qualify for the tournament. Knight's was definitely on the backside of a tremendous career and was trending downward.

I get that but do you think that if we had no grumbling at all and assembly Hall was packed each game and everyone only cheered and no one called Glass to complain that anything would ever change?

Consider the Cubs. Ton of support and the longest record of futility.

The point is not how he finished, but where he was before he got here.  Someone at IU saw something in him and took a chance on him.  I agree the finish was not good.  However, we haven't won crap in 20+ years, sort of like before we hired another unknown.  If we just wait on a big name we might never get him or be disappointed.  We might have to go the visionary route at some point.  I just worry we don't have any leadership in place anywhere on campus that can make the bold move to bring in a guy who is on his way up.

And yes, I unashamedly think RMK is the greatest.  Always have, always will.

The only way we'll get some changes from the coach is to change the coach.  Crean won't make any changes because at best he flat refuses and at worst he's not capable of it, and frankly I lean towards the latter.

64 teams made it back then. The only difference was the four play-in games added in 2011. If anything, his name helped them get in during some of those bubble years.

And we were still top half of the conference each of those seasons.  That was considered down by the standards RMK had established, and unfortunately we're stuck with a coach that has never even seen a 6 year stretch like that.

Bob Knight had no standards when he left.

So, you can count Crean's first 3 years and not Knight's last 6? LMAO.

I never said anything about that, I said Crean has never seen a 6 year stretch like that at any point in his career.

Frankly, I think year 3 should be counted.  I haven't heard an argument that can convince me it shouldn't.  Although it's a moot point because officially they do count.

Most people still count them but chalk it up to him not caring anymore. Which means more people are giving Crean more leeway.

Honestly, I don't won't anyone part of the program the "don't care". He's a wash these days.

I will count bobs last six and you can hide creans first three. What is the point crean still isnt as good lol. I liked bob as a coach but had my issues towards the end the biggest difference was I still had hope his team could win any game I dont have that with crean. I cant see arguing over a guy who had three championships and had six sub par seasons the end and saying what had happened under crean is anything close to bobs last six.

Bob didn't even have hope in himself. That's why he went out like he did.
