Thoughts on Archie Miller

Recommended Posts

great idea. Should be a good coach.

He already had his chance and failed. I don't think it makes much sense for ASU. They need to get someone who has won. Honestly Archie wouldn't be crazy here.

Interesting development... Herb Sendek fired at Arizona State. Could you imagine if the Sun Devils pulled Archie? Brother v Brother at least twice a year?! Imagine the battles! Imagine the RECRUITING battles!

I swear I'm not trying to stir the pot and go further off topic, but didn't I read somewhere that CTC almost bolted for ASU after year one?

Just because Capel had a rough time at Oklahoma doesn't mean he doesn't deserve another shot. I think he's a great candidate, given that he's probably grown a lot from his first go round and learned more being coach K's right hand man. That, plus ASU being an easy place to recruit means IMO they should be able to land a pretty good coach.

Doubting Archie would want to go compete against his brother

Strong connections between Archie Miller and Herb Sendek.

Sendek was Archie's coach at NC State ( 1998-2002). Then Archie became Sendek's assistant coach at both NC State ( 2004-2006 ) and Arizona State ( 2006-2007 ). So apart from the brother vs. brother battles with Sean, I doubt that Archie would want to take over his former coach/mentor's job now that Sendek has been fired.

Didn't Capel have to deal with Sampson fallout I? Not the same crater he left IU in, but it was a hole to dig out of.

He did. He also brought Blake Griffin in and had a pretty decent run for a while before the train fell off the tracks. I think now that he's had some more seasoning, he could prove to be a pretty good coach

I believe he also left Oklahoma with more NCAA problems regarding the Tiny Gallon situation. I don't know that he had anything to do with it, but it happened on his watch.

Holy cow...I know extensions don't mean he's staying for the entirety, but this is the 2nd one he's signed in 2 years.

They know he's a hot commodity and they are trying to protect themselves. Makes sense because all he did this year was make himself an even bigger name.
