Clear example of how Crean fails in recruiting.

There is no such thing as a Center anymore in basketball. (Except for Roy Hibbert)

There are a few more than Roy, but people just don't realize that basketball has changed. The traditional lineup of PG, SG, SF, PF, C just doesn't really exist today. Basketball has evolved from that traditional lineup. Big men have to be able to step out and hit shots and post up. And today's big men are usually someone between 6'8" and 6'11".  Fans need to adapt to the new style of basketball that is being played

We can take the easy way out and blame Crean or realize our bigs are all hurt or transferred or both!

Noah--Transfer to NBA

Luke--Transfer closer to home

PJ-----Hurt and Transfer

Devin Davis---hurt

Hanner---------hurt

Thank goodness we picked up Holt late.  April and Priller appear to need more development---but I am ready for April to get some run. We need that big body down low.

Blows me away that April played against UL---but not against lesser competition. I hope he is not injured too!

Don't forget Cody Transferred to the NBA also

It depends on what you value at Indiana. If you value getting 3 lottery players in the draft 2 years in a row as a successful program, then like you you're not complaining. If you value final fours and national championships and you have 3 lottery NBA draftees in back to back years combined with 6 1000 point career scorers and the best you can finish is a sweet 16 in one and not even qualifying for any tournament the other; not only are you complaining but you're looking for a new coach that can really accomplish with that kind of talent. To say that Crean has underachieved here at Indiana would be like me misreading the constant excuses from the same excuse makers.

It's quite a bit easier to be a 1000 point scorer in Crean's offense with Potential to play 40 games and regularly 30 plus than on a Knight offense and only over 28 or so games most years.

From the site.

Russo is a mobile and skilled forward that is at his best when facing up in the mid and high post and attacking off the bounce. He is a very good athlete who plays above the rim on both ends.

Sounds like Creans kind of guy but not really a low post player.

It also said Indiana is really hitting the juco circuit hard looking for bigs

.I think that's a good thing if they can find a serviceable big that way.I don't feel good about any of the high profile preps we're after. Hope I'm wrong and this is just insurance.

Just get us a Dean Garrett-type coach and next year will be good to go.

I made this quote being somewhat sarcastic. There are definitely more than Roy. They are few and far between though. You nailed it on the head saying today's bigs are 6'8 to 6'11. If you have someone in this range that is tough and has post moves then you can have an advantage on both ends of the court. Unfortunately IU does not have this at the moment. Plenty of 6'8" none of them as tough and skilled as I would like.

Anybody got an update on if AJ Moye has any offspring? If we can get him to reproduce and somehow spit out a 6'9" or 6'10" male then I would feel alot better about IU's future.

I think your point is fair. It is also fair though to wonder if Crean can manage to balance a roster when things like this happen.

Sometimes things like injuries are unavoidable but just last year we had a roster that was woefully lacking outside shooters.

Two years in a row where we have a glaring weakness. We addressed the shooters this year but it seems strange to me that we send two bigs to the NBA lottery, have a glaring need and cannot sign anyone for this year.

I think our hard-nosed undersized guy like that, is recovering from a halloween accident.

Agree he would help out a ton on the defensive end. I guess deep down I am just wishing Hanner would have turned out to be a Alan Henderson type hell or even a Jeff Newton on the the defensive and rebounding part of his game. I would be happy with his 4-6 ppg if he was totally dominating in those other two facites.

Coming in we all hoped Hanner would/could and it looks like a lot of experts along with Crean thought he would too.

Apparently, he didn't put in the work behind Cody and Noah to realize his potential this year.

But, man, we've seen glimpses of what he can do. If the light finally comes on and he sets up a tent in cook hall this summer, we could be in a for a real treat come next fall.

At the time of his recruitment, I thought Cody was going to be Tom Crean's "Tyler Hansbrough". I know they're different players, but in terms of a guy that stayed 4 years, just loved college basketball and eventually delivered a title.

I kind of wonder the what ifs on this one.
