T Coleman to the Falcons

happens too often. Good player leaves ahead of his eligibility. Worse yet it is celebrated by fans. We need to get back to recruiting athletes that are COMMITTED to IU and not to a fat payday! Why can't we recruit guys like van waiters, anthony Thompson, etc...? I think it's just too much work for our current coaching staffs.

Tevin has nothing left to prove. Dude is ready end of story. Not that hard to understand.

Buddy, you can't be serious. Dude played three years for us and broke records. If our quarterback hadn't been hurt, he would have led us back to a bowl game. Go get your money, Tev. We all appreciate what you've done.

I know you hate CKW, but posting convoluted asinine crap to take a shot at the guy does nothing to help people take you seriously.

What a selfish post by ashton. You clearly have no concept of how sports and real life works. The decision was a no brainer.

I understand sports these days, that's the problem. It used to be that college athletes took pride in representing their schools, and valued a degree. They were team oriented instead of 'me' oriented. Thompson could have left IU early, but instead played a fourth year and continued to help his team win. Too bad college sports are not for student-athletes anymore. It's all about the money. The fact that all big ten games are ESPN or another pay network, ads are displayed in Assembly Hall, and that the hall is soon to be renamed for its latest donor is disappointing.

It always was. Always has been. And always will be about the money. Every damn day.

Running backs take a ton of punishment from many guys that are quite a bit heavier/bigger. I would leave and take whatever money I could get. I enjoyed my time at IU, but I was not an exceptional football player.

Thompson and Tevin is actually a good comparison, I'll give you more than everyone else here on that because you're right. Thompson could have gone the year before and probably would have been drafted in a similar place.

But then of course, Thompson went and only had a 3 year career in the NFL after having a much better overall college career than Tevin. Maybe Tevin looks at that and wants more and thinks he should leave earlier to get it.

I respectfully disagree that its a good comparison. The underclassmen draft eligibilty rules didn't change until 1989, the very draft AT would have entered as a jr.  Leaving early was never  consideration for him until the prospect suddenly became an option.Underclassmen leaving early is all Tevin has ever known.

The NFL draft advisory board didn't exist until 1994. The only people AT had to consult on his draft prospects were Coach Mal and his family. Tevin has that resource, not just some hired gun, paid consulting service whispering sweets in his ear.

I'm not saying the system is better or worse, just vastly different than it was 25 years ago.

Didn't Ken Nunn have a hand in Anthony's pro career? I thought I heard it wasn't such a good hand, either.

Yeah, shame on us fans for celebrating a player work himself into a all-american player and represent IU the right way the three years he was here.  We certainly don't want those players.

Can't confirm or deny, but he is "reportedly" friends with Dr. Grossman, who  "reportedly" advised AT and the family during the contract negotiations that resulted in missing training camp.

I actually thought the rule change was a couple years before. I meant more it's a good comparison for their final year's being very similar and Tevin is currently projected into the same spot where Thompson was taken.

My uncle (who went to HS with and then was an assistant coach of AT's when he graduated) had mentioned it in the past but I can't remember what he said. Whatever it was, AT got screwed with a contract and my uncle absolutely hates Nunn for it.

Not saying Coleman didn't do well in his time here, just that it'd be nice to see him finish the job. Interested to see though, if his departure will come into play should IUSB have another substandard season.

What screwed AT was the fact that he was drafted by a terrible Phoenix Cardinal team that had a rookie offensive line that left him punished. It shortened the career of a great, durable college back that held touchdown, game yardage, and carry stats that took decades to break. Forty carries a game was not unusual for him. For those of us around in '87-'88, and who know AT, he is one-of-kind. I wish Coleman well, and hope that if his career ends early, he can find the same contentment AT has.
