Is IU currently reaching out to Brad Stevens through back channels?

I think I could answer that question several ways, but I'll start with this: I think it's safe to assume that 99% of those who use the term write it in a demeaning way, and to suggest otherwise is disingenuous.

Another way to respond, I suppose is to ask another question. Crean displays a lot of mannerisms on the sideline. From my vantage point (watching on TV), he is most commonly shown talking with players as they go in or out of the game. So why don't you refer to him as Coach Who Instructs His Players on the Sideline Crean?

And here is a third way to respond. If we're to say that people use the term Clappy because it is descriptive of him, then I can think of another word that is descriptive of him that's also easy to use: Tom. Why don't you refer to him as, simply, "Tom" since that is also descriptive of him?

I think we both know why people use the term. My view of it is that every coach has mannerisms that are going to be more prevalent the more you watch his team play. And even when I don't like that coach (and I'm certainly no Crean apologist), I just don't feel need to demean those coaches/people/teams that I don't like...except for Purdue and Kentucky, of course.

Again, I don't mean to offend, so if I wrote anything that seems to push a button, I pre preemptively apologize. But I still just don't get why people use the term. For lack of a better word, it seems childish to me.

If he just said he sucked at coaching would it be better? Bobby Knight was called many names all by the teams he was steamrolling. I don't recall many by us Hoosiers other than the general. When grandmothers can see how bad are coach is , is that a slap on the face of our state or coach? Indiana is basketball and you can't fake it no matter your title.

Once again I'm not really sure if you're actually responding to things I've written or are just on a tangent. Where did I mention Bob Knight? Now that you've brought him up, I'll tell you my opinion in the context of my original point about using the name Clappy - I don't know why people would have chosen to use demeaning names in regards to Coach Knight either. Is that what you're looking for?

And again, we can see it differently, but I just don't see the need to use silly demeaning names for someone. I think it takes something away from whatever argument one is trying to make when they do that. That's all.

We went from "The General" to "Clappy the Clown". If that doesn't speak volumes about the state of our program, than I don't know what does.

I have us finishing 8-10 in the BIG. 18-11 overall. NIT bid.

I still only see Wisconsin, OSU, and Maryland giving us trouble. We will probably go 1-1 against MSU, but after the pre conference, not a lot of big ten teams looking strong. IU is still in the top 4 of the Big Ten. Michigan, Nebraska, and MSU all looked terrible and lost to some nobodies. The sky isn't falling and I think we still finish in the top 4 of the Big Ten

This. There's no reason to think otherwise apparently. Apparently IU would win title after title if he blessed all of us with his coaching expertise. He won a million games in the Horizon League, but people here can't shut up about a coach who won the B1G outright just a few hundred days ago.

No one is saying that and you know it. I am curious, let's start with Creans 3rd year and extend through 2016. What sort of results would you want out of a coach at IU? BT championships are great and I will take those anytime but do you have any expectations on a national level?

never heard anyone add "clown" onto clappy to make clappy the clown. Will credit you with that

Those teams have coaches who improve their teams throughout the season. MSU will definitely be fine.

Michigan and Nebraska have lost to multiple cupcakes..so they didn't improve much through the pre conference schedule. MSU has lost to a cupcake team and lack scoring. Sounds like you support those teams more so i think you are on the wrong board...

I agree with you. I actually expected a top 5 finish very early in the season. Our lack of D has me concerned but the BT has shown themselves to be less than world beaters this year.

Anything less than a top four finish is a pretty big disappointment. I would also hope we finally do something in the BTT.

No matter how many interviews Stevens does saying he has no interest in leaving the Celtics, some IU fans think that is some sort of secret code that he is coming hahah

please post one of those interviews. I thought I might have just missed them but upon searching for the past 20 minutes I am doubting any exist. Please share

Here are the two I remember reading in the past week or so.

I think the quotes are from the same interview, but what he said is pretty clear. Whether that's just coach-speak though, who knows.

thanks. Those did not come up for me. I am wrong as they do exist, however, I do not believe he would not listen if IU approached him. Him taking the job... I don't know but I as well as others that know him believe he would listen. Think about it. The IU job is not open and he has not been offered the job, so what is he going to say, yes, I would abandon my contract and leave the celtics IF I am offers a job that isn't open? Seriously, if he was that dumb, nobody would want him.

I agree. I think he listens but he is not a guy that makes changes easily and has said no before. However to take his comments as absolute proof he would never come or if he did we should consider him a liar is crazy talk.
