Emitt Holt...Better than advertised, or an aberration?

Recommended Posts

I think Emmitt will end up being a huge steal for us. Whether or not he has another big game is irrelevant to me and for this reason: he already shows he is aware of where he needs to be on the floor. That is huge in player development. If you have a Freshman who already understands the flow of the game and is running the floor in transition and hitting layups, that's miles ahead of anything anyone was expecting from him. If all we need to do is get him stronger and fine tune his game, he's going to be a hell of a player.

Yep.   but most importantly, the hair.

I think this thread is way way premature. How can we have any idea if it was an aberration without a comparative game? He's had one game with significant minutes and it was great. If he has another game with significant minutes and it's terrible maybe it was an aberration, if he has a third and it's great then he might just be better than advertised. Is JBJ worse than advertised because he didn't have a great game?

Agreed that 1 game does not make a career but if we can get 10-15 quality minutes out of him as he learns the nuances of Division I basketball then we have greatly strengthened our team by bringing him on board.  I thought he appeared to have the natural instincts for how to play the game whereas it often looks like Hanner has to think rather than automatically react.   I think there was a stat posted that said he had more blocks than fouls on the AAU circuit and if that was factual then EH knows how to play the game.

I think he is going to have been a great get even if he just were a not terrible player to occupy the post and give Hanner some breathing room. I also think he'll turn out to be more than that.

But, the post is asking if the Pitt game was an aberration, literally a deviation from the norm, it's a question that is unanswerable without the norm.

HOLT is a player this staff needs to go all in with possibly. If he is as good as he has loomed (even with a few mins of pt) then screw the next shiny big man if we are already loaded with scholarships. Make him a gym rat.

I can only imagine what je'ney is about to do with that young man. Hit your macros Holt and sling some iron around!

Just wish he could get more minutes

They will come. He's good in limited minutes so far. His physical and mental conditioning may not be there for more than 15 minutes a game. This may shock some, but I bet Crean has a good reason behind his decision to play Emmitt for fewer minutes than we all want.

I am definitely in the more minutes for Holt crowd too.

Love watching Holt's game so far---he seems to be in the right place at the right time and has altered a lot of shots that he has not blocked.

Love his fundamentals---and can you imagine his stat lines as his playing time increases?

Big Time numbers are coming with seasoning!
