Never Daunted

The nation's perspective on IUBB

The blame gets put on the coach making 2+ million a year as it should. Who cares if he's not willing to accept it. 2 out of 7 years we were a top 20 team and prospects aren't looking up; instead its the other way with high % of players in trouble for various reasons. Sorry, this isn't Indiana basketball and you can't just coach speak your way out of it. Crean will go the way of Gillepsie at UK, Shula at Bama, Hoke at Mich, and Muschamp at Florida. Glass needs to go with him. Give Stevens, I mean the new coach, a clean slate.

I know this has been beat to death, but really? Creans record out of 7 years? I honesty want to know which season you start counting? I'm not pumping sunshine, drinking kool-aid or wearing "crimson colored glasses", but do you really count the first season? The second? When do you start?

the first season he gets a total pass but by season 2 or 3 @ IU he should have been doing much much better. It's IU for gosh sakes. Look at Hoiberg at Iowa State for example. 3 full years was a LONG build. Years 1-3 were very similar too. Big jump at 4 but that little progress over 3 years was brutal.

In summary, total pass in year 1 year 2 expected significant improvement and year 3 should have been swinging. Although in all reality CBB is the easiest team sport to make drastic changes in 1-one-uno year. All it takes is 3 great recruits and you can win. Many coaches would have rebuilt IU faster tbh/IMO

According to my figures we should have at least the 8th best coach in the country. Can we honestly say that is what CTC has been the last 7 years.

For those saying his first 2 years shouldn't count, I don't care. I don't even care we missed the tournament last year. We were a bad team. I am more upset about how he lost to Syracuse in the Sweet 16 with Oladipo and Zeller. If you were happy with the result of this team only making it to the Sweet 16 then that is sad.

I do not think CTC is a top 10 or top 15 coach. I do think IU deserves a top 10 or top 15 coach. I could list 10 coaches that I would rather have than CTC. All would be possible with the right AD in charge of the search. Giving CTC "another year to turn things around" is just delaying the inevitable. And if we do happen to get another great team like the one we had a couple of years ago then I do not want CTC in charge of the X & O's. If he can't lead that team past the Sweet 16 then no team in our foreseeable future has a change for an Elite 8 or Final 4.

I agree the sweet sixteen loss 2 years ago hurt a lot more than last season. I'm a Coach Crean supporter, but I'm not going to blah, blah, blah you with how I think he's going to get it done. The time is now and he needs to get it done with the team he's created. I really don't care what sub pattern or how he does it, but it needs to happen this year.

Success = we get better throughout the year and make the NCAA tournament. (Minimum)

This is where I am at too Ranger78.

I like Crean---he's proven he's a good Coach---but for me he has had long enough and must get it done this year.  It's IU----and we expect and deserve a consistent winner----I hope he shows he's up to the challenge this year. If not---I will be ready to find someone who is....We have been contenders 2 of the last 3 years---and should be a contender again this year with the talent we have assembled.  We shall see!

"Two years ago, no one would have dreamed that Crean would be coaching with the jackals braying for his job."

So anyone who thinks Crean should be gone is a braying jackal? (I wasn't aware jackals brayed...)

Overall, cannot disagree with the article, as it simply stated the facts. Story seems to be suggesting a different and/or better coach (he hints Brad Stevens) keeping more of the homegrown talent in state may be a solution to IU basketball's problems.

Of course, Story is writing this as an open plea to super tolerant UK fans, many of whom still say "Tubby Smith wasn't a bad coach, he was just the wrong color."*

*I hear this every couple of weeks from different UK fans.

Hence why ranking high schools players means crap

Not true. These are our highest rated players, they are also our BEST. See the correlation? Granted, unheralded players DO surprise and shock and some, but much fewer, high rated players fizzle.

Ratings systems aren't foolproof but they are wonderful indicators for future successes. Most rosters bear truth to this fact, including ours.

Mark Story pretty much nailed it. I mean you really have to work hard  to screw up as bad as IU has in such a basketball crazy state. I think BBN is just a little scared that the Brad Stevens thing just might happen.       This article should embarrass and infuriate every IU basketball fan at the same time because its true.

The list of Indiana kids that over the last 20 or so years that have gone to MSU, OSU, Michigan, Duke, Arizona, North Carolina, Kentucky...and the success those programs have had with those kids is enough to make me sick to my stomach.

According to ESPN Crean isn't top 50. That article on ou players value gives me hope we can turn this thing around just make the right hire.

This! We got worse the third year. Crean has been WAY overrated as a recruiter. I mean who are they comparing him to, Davis?

You count after he has a year of recruiting. Good grief Im so tired of hearing the first three years don't count.

What we say on here doesn't matter anyway, officially the early years do count so yes this is year 7.

Unofficially, I'd be fine with discounting year one or two but IMO no way should he get a pass for year three as well.

One year of recruiting? From having no players. That's fine. Again, not saying we shouldn't be better now, but one year of recruiting? From Finklemeyer to tournament team. Sure. You're right
