The State of our program- How do you guys feel about it?

Recommended Posts

I understand your frustration and hope you are wrong as well.
I do believe we have the personnel ---and I expect us to win and make the tourney with 2 burger boys and multiple 4 stars. Or else--I will be ready for change too.

Rebel, I love your optimism! But, I must ask, are you Mr. Fred Glass?

After reading your last 3 or 4 comments, I was thinking those are exactly the things Glass would be saying.

What I fear most of all is that we will win 17/18 games and the powers that be will call that progress.
I fear we will settle for mediocre or slightly better.
The thought of that makes me queasy...win or bust!

Nope. But---I hope he is thinking these things.  What I fear is that he does not see this year as make or break for IU Bball---I think reading between the lines he is planning to give Crean 2-3 more years counting this year. You guys like to give me crap---but the fact is I agree with your calls for change if we don't get back to the tourney this year. And if we do---I agree with your calls for change if we are not a title contender next year.  I am OK with down years like last year when we had 2 good ones before it as long as we get right back on track. IU deserves to win consistently.  Call me names all you want---but I am living in the real world and at this point Crean is here this year whether any of us like it or not. So---we might as well root for our team and our Coach---that's the IU way!

I wouldn't/haven't called you names. I like your enthusiasm and positive outlook.

My fear is we have a slightly above average season, and we keep Crean and have to delay the inevitable. Either Win big and recruit big or let's move on. My on the court faith is lacking drastically too.

In football terms I'd rather be like Nebraska or Florida than settling for mediocrity. Swing for the fences. Go big or go home. Cliche cliche cliche, etc.

Your comments on Glass are precisely why some on message boards feel the need to be so vocal about Crean needing to go now. It is a bit of a process and when the AD makes comments about keeping a guy beyond what people want then they start to show dissatisfaction as they can. Message boards are one area but attendance at games and donations are larger signals.

I know that we are finishing a holiday break but attendance has been down recently. We should watch as the season goes on - this was one of the indicators for Davis.

Another smaller example is the poster who works for the foundation calling for donations. They are not calling IU athletic boosters specifically but the poster on here mentioned a noticeable increase in dissatisfaction for the bball program amongst alumni they called.

Unfortunately I think Glass has to give the impression that he is keeping Crean even if he has decided otherwise. Right now I believe he does plan to bring him back even if we have a mediocre year. Thus those who are against this idea will get more vocal if things do not improve.

It seems you get what you'll accept. Don't know whether it's a good thing or not but ya gotta give fans of programs like UNC and UK. they don't accept sucking for very long.

I have to throw my .02 in here.

We have, what we have...for now! I'm dissatisfied with a great deal concerning the state of the program. Yet, I'm head-over heals with the academics. Our Coaches need to be well-rounded, not just in the sport but with the education that should/must take priority. However, that includes out of the classroom/court behaviors. With all of that said~

The IU basketball program must continue to excel in academics (STUDENT athlete)

The IU basketaball program must have zero tolerance to inappropriate behavior (ambassadors of the university)

The IU basketball program must excel in the sport of basketball

If by the season, if one of those bullets are not met, we must look for a program change.

There have been deficiencies in one of those bullets, for certain (inappropriate behavior) Happens again, PROGRAM CHANGE

There have been deficiencies in last season's performance. If it happens this year, PROGRAM CHANGE

I do not believe as a fan, I have the ability to wish a coach away, I'm backing Coach Crean and this team because he is IU's coach at this time, during this season, in other words, right friggin' now! Don't get me wrong,  I'm disappointed in the performance of our team prior to this evening ~ And, as someone watching the game on television, I have seen some questionable coaching concerns. Yet, i will continue to offer my support as long as he is our coach.

While he is in the position of head coach, I think we should ALL give him support whether we like the person, or not.

With all that being said. There better be progress or there needs to be a vacancy.

I'm just tired of hearing the same-ol,, same-ol stuff. Remember folks, He is OUR Coach!

The problem is the program doesn't keep the attention it needs nationally. I used to live in Indiana but I now have lived in Utah for about 4 years. People just don't recognize that Indiana has had such a successful program in the past. Then when something does happen to make headlines here it's the players ignorant decisions. I enjoyed every second of the number one ranking. Had to let everyone know that I was a true Indiana from Indiana who stuck with them when they were awful. Sadly enough I've been hearing about the Eastern Washington loss for a week now. Indiana needs to make positive actions that a noteworthy on a national level. Helps recruiting and respect for the program
