Here's this

@MikeMillerHT: Crean says Eastern Washington game was moving too fast to throw Emmitt Holt into the mix.

Well, then Crean needs to go...ridiculous excuse....what harm would it have done at this point? we are gonna need the kid down the road...getting fed up with crean..

I want to see more Holt too-----EWU did run a more European style game and drove with their bigs a lot which is why Crean said he did not go with Hanner as much either.  I am guessing the same thing goes with Holt. Both are more traditional bigs at this point.

But---we have to get more time with Holt on the floor---I really think if DD does not get back this year---Holt is our hope to have a solid inside presence. He is further along than April and Holt has the closest thing to a Big Ten body that we have left.

We have to throw him in---- to the wolves so he can get better.

Does Holt have processing issues where he can't deal with fast moving things? Or wait, was the game literally moving too fast to substitute and we just couldn't scrounge up a time-out?

He didn't get minutes against Lamar either. Probably those sub-340 teams just move too fast.

I thought that the Lamar game was Holt's debut.  Pretty sure he was out there for a few minutes.

Wow, really low expectations for this team...I searched the box score for "deflections" and could not find that stat...so we are now counting deflections for worthiness to start...We will be killed in the Big Ten if we are starting kids inside due to their penchant for deflections... :stop:

No kidding! When I played a steal was a worthy stat. But a deflection? Is this what this coach values? I feel nauseous

Deflections are a pretty legit stat. Crean may overvalue them, but I think you and others seriously undervalue them.

Here's an article from NPR where Pitino talks about how important they are to winning.

Holt should see the floor. I like Hanner, but IU has to get experience for the other bigs. Holt, Priller, and April need time.

Hanner will get in fouls trouble or play terrible, we won't survive, struggle to compete, with Troy at the 5. Priller and April are behind, but at least they get in and hustle non-stop. Give the boys time!

Believe it or not ----Crean actually knows how to coach and he actually had a point---Holt is a freshman and it takes time for bigs to adjust to the speed of the game---but I agree Holt needs to be in the game to get used to the speed---won't happen sitting on the bench.

I am all for sink or swim time with Holt---I think he is our best back-up for Hanner going forward---I will even go a step further and say his development is a key to us having a successful season.

How else would we have iced the free throw shooters if Crean was busy taking timeouts to make adjustments?
