Revised Season Expectations

Recommended Posts

I just went through the schedule and can very easily see us with 22 wins on the season. Seems like 22 should be enough for a tourney bid right? But that doesn't really give us a lot of Quality wins... Would it be better to just win the game we should or lose a couple of those but instead win some we shouldn't???

Small sample size so far but the freshmen look really good, C Hart has been a huge surprise, although I've always liked what he brought, wasn't sure if he could come back from the injury. Yogi is agonizing to watch, but like others can't write off the good he brings... Can't wait for Troy to get back in the lineup.

You should probably do some research before posting. Name one team in the big ten other than wisconsin that will eat us alive on the inside. Michigan state? Their tallest player is 6'9. Michigan? Hanner is better than any big man on their roster. Ohio state? Sure they have Amir williams at 6'11, but when has he ever been dominant. They also have 6'11 Trevor Thompson who managed to average a whopping 4 points at Virginia tech before leaving. Illinois? Their best big barely plays in the post. Nebraska? They have 6'10 Walter pitchforks who plays more on the perimiter. So please, before you post things like this, do some investigating or even watch some BIG teams.

Real nice breakdown of our opposition, broseph.

Geeze, if we only win 18 we will all be annoyed as that will be 2 consecutive years without going to the tourney and will be a NIT bubble team. Not good. I expect more than that

As we ALL should! I've been pretty quite since all the off the court drama started again a few weeks back. Since then, honestly. It's extremely hard for me to get excited about IU basketball. I've been a fan my entire 31 yr life. And never do I remember caring less if I see the game tonight or not. That's the truth. Before season started I was optimistic about this season and trying so hard to look at the positives and not the negatives of this team. I was getting so excited for the season that I drove over 4 1/2 hours one way to get to Hysteria! Then, the off the court issues started piling on again. And this time it has lost me. As hard as it is to admit and say.

Also, I never was a fan of the CTC hire. Thought it came from no where really. But who would have thought that in year 7 that we would be where we are now? I sure didn't see it coming, not like this! I'm afraid after the 2012-13 season Indiana Basketball has taken several steps in the wrong direction. And with the recruiting looking the way it does. It's gonna keep trending the same. So, if we are going to keep Glass and CTC. Then what will it take to get us back?

I took heat all summer long on another site for saying this team would win 24 games and finish third in conference. Of course that was prior to all the stupid distractions. The loss of DD hurts and its tough for a young team to overcome distractions. The offense can hang with about anybody but the D is a work in progress. I've revised to around 19-20 wins and about 8th in conference. Iffy on making the dance.

Ditto this! I was optimistic coming into this season too even though I am not a Crean fan. The off court stuff again has soured me also. 35 year fan.

Colin as a HUGE surprise is an understatement for me considering about three weeks ago the kid was too sore to practice. I never expected him to see the floor this season.

Anyone can look competent at basketball when the competition is as weak as Stephen Hawking, (the physicist, not a potential opponent that Fred Glass is trying to line of for future scheduling). Given our robust schedule, with the first nine games at home, against the likes of basketball juggernauts "Grand Canyon" and "Eastern Washington", we could be 9-0, looking every bit like a baby UK team, and we'll still get our asses handed to us by Louisville. Further, if we can somehow manage 6 wins in the Big Ten, we'll be just damned lucky. That gives us 15 wins for the season, and that's assuming we beat everyone, save Louisville, in our pre-Big Ten schedule.

No doubt, we'll either spring a surprise or come close to it, and "Clappy the Clown" will act as if we're just a turnover or two away from being in competition for the championship. Certain fans will continue to support Clappy, because he's always so optimistic, and "brought us back from the abyss". And Fred Glass will continue to offer his undying support, and claim that Clappy isn't the problem at IU, the players are. And 15-20 wins a year will become our new target, our new measuring stick for success at IU.

Glass and Crean are definitely attached at the hip.

If there's one significant thing I've gained from watching these games, it's that Rojo is a better point guard than yogi. Excellent vision and poise, always finds the open man. Love his game so much

Many fans underestimated Rojo's game for some reason. The kid is a big time talent although I will admit I never thought he'd look better than Yogi at running the show.

ive been saying this a lot, its weird to see jbj and rojo initiating the offense and running the point.....also agree yogi has been selfish, and again making really bad passes........and at times bad shot selections

JBJ and Rojo remind me so much of Lyndon Jones and Jay Edwards on the court.

My question to guys like TrueHoosier62: Are you rooting for Crean to get fired or are you rooting for the team to have a good year? I think you have to pick one or the other because if we have a good year, Crean isn't going anywhere.

Win or lose this year, Crean isn't going anywhere; Glass' undying devotion made that apparent. The question is not whether or not I'm rooting for IU to fail in order for Crean to be tossed, (that won't happen anyway). The question is, will this program be any better a year from now, or two years from now, given what Crean has assembled to date. I don't see how anyone can honestly believe it will be.

How can you not believe that this won't be a better team next year? Keep these kids together, and we'd have an experienced team with lethal shooters...

The "keep these kids together" part seems to be a problem. With a projected class size of 3 next year, at least three of these kids will be moving on. Here we go again.

In order to believe anything, there has to be a reason to do so. Do you really believe that next year's team will be better, will be able to challenge for a Big Ten championship or I dare say, a National Championship? Do you believe it or do you only hope so? Most of us older IU fans have seen first hand what championship teams look like, what they play like, how they're coached, how they respond to adversity, how they develop teamwork and cohesion over the course of a season, how they develop toughness and character, and how they eventually turn it on come tournament time. I don't know of too many of those older fans who can look at the current make up of the program and say with any degree of honesty, "Yup, this is a championship team in the making".
