Stephen Zimmerman down to IU & UK???

Recommended Posts

That was a weird interview. She referred to her own son as "Zimm" several times and said she loves the way Sean (Miller) coaches and she's always thought he was "gangster".

Just odd things coming from a mother IMO.

Totally agree.  When I was reading it, it had the tone of a "hanger-on" friend, not a mother.

Really weird...  This quote made it seem like the recruitment was being ran like the Bachelor...

“We cleared up a lot of things and discussed the role he would play in Stephen’s recruitment over the next five months,” Stevens explained. “We love the way Sean coaches. I’ve always thought he was a gangster. I’d like to see Arizona recruit us as hard as anybody. It’s a great opportunity.”

So Zimmerman is taking all his OVs now, but he will need another 5 months to make a decision?  It's almost seems like the family just wants to bathe in the attention of these coaches and are prolonging the process and forcing them all to make phone calls and visits for as long as possible.  Perhaps the mom should take it to the next level and have rose ceremonies each month where they eliminate another school.  I could take the analogy farther, but community standards are holding me back.

I think it's more than bathing in the attention. I think there's some legal things going on here too. It hasn't been mentioned, but when discussing "Zimm" waiting until spring, his mom has made several mentions of never actually signing an LOI. From what I remember reading, his mom has said he'll commit late and go the financial aid route, or whatever it is.

Like Hot for example, since he committed so late, he never actually had to sign an LOI. He's still on a basketball scholarship, but when you go late it's not an actual LOI you sign. I don't know all the rules/legalities maybe other posters do, but it's just different.

While all one and dones are certainly focused on the NBA, the more I read about this one, I think Zimm and his mom already have one foot out the door, before he's ever even suited up for a college game.

Pretty sure the request for financial aid is being used by the 1 and done players because they're not bound to a letter of intent and they can bail If problems arise within a program or a better offer comes along $ :D

Geez, kind of reminded me of some tv interview Trey Lyle's mom gave after he committed to UK. She was BS'ing to the reporter how great the academics were at UK, meanwhile you could hear Trey in the background doing another interview saying he was "just looking for the fastest route to the NBA."

I find it quite frustrating that we can't get a quality big to commit, as well.  Crean's system IS more guard/wing oriented, but come on!  If anything, Vonleh's supposed comments had to do some damage.  It's never good when your lottery pick is saying he wasn't used as he should have been.

And so, it's probably the combination of a guard oriented system, players watching how IU has used its highly talented big men the last three years, and maybe even some questioning Crean's long-term stability here.  I can't see any of those being a positive to us landing an outstanding big.

Agreed. It would seem like we would be pulling a little more elite big attention riding the Cody and Noah iu pipeline. I would be fine with an elite big rolling through each year.

*shakes angry fist at Luke Fisher*

:P

I try not to think about the Fisher thing. Thanks for bringing that up. :(
