If they don't get penalized for not playing (which they shouldn't) does that mean they should be rewarded for not playing (which they were by receiving 70 more points)? Shouldn't their week 6 and week 7 points be the same?

Not you man. With Joe there is just no discussion. If there is a nanogram of hope of differing opinion he goes the hipster rout for a hot take. He doesn’t want discussion or facts. He wants a voice that is heard. I know better than try to discuss. That’s all I meant with what I said. Like talking to a damn wall. It’s funny what we are arguing about is how Marquette should be ranked higher than IU. Because they have looked better. I bet every bottom dollar I have at most he has only watched one game other than the IU game with them. So he doesn’t have a clue it’s just a chance to argue. About the only one of us that has watched more than 2 Marquette games is USPS.

I have to admit, I don't have a major issue with what Joe is saying.

Unless I am misreading his posts, it doesn't appear to me as if he is arguing that Marquette should be ranked ahead of IU.  What is he is arguing is that media members are voting based on perception, which naturally is going to be filled with human biases (OK I added that last part).  To me he is not defending whether the voters are voting the right way, but rather why they are voting the way they are.

I’ve never said Marquette is better than us or should be ranked ahead of us. I’m just showing you why they are ranked ahead of us as of right now. They have a big game later this week against Buffalo. They lose, they move down. They win, they move up. Unless they lose to North Dakota.

Yes. Just because you beat someone doesn’t mean you should be automatically ranked above them. Rankings are personal opinions of the media. Marquette after losing to us helped themselves climb by beat two top 15 teams. We beat Marquette but then lost to Arkansas which kept us out. Then got whooped by Duke. Marquette has played better than we have since that game.

Buffalo/Cuse tonight. If you haven’t had a chance to watch buffalo play watch. They are a really good team with a huge week ahead. On the road at Marquette later in the week. A split would be big for their at large hopes. Already beat West Virginia on the road but West Virginia has kind of fallen off. Of course I’ve told people to watch them they will probably get blown out

I’ve watched more than 2 Marquette games.

The whole argument about ratings is silly to me.

I think of ratings more like tiers.

1-5, 6-10, 11-30, 31-50. Or whatever. The tiers can change but 2 or 3 spots in ratings means nothing. Kind of the same for rankings recruits.

IU and Marquette belong in the same tier right now. We kicked their Butt but they could maybe kick our Butt as well.

Glad we got the better of them.

I don’t see a team when I watched them against us or Wisconsin that is on our tier unless we are talking the difference between a 4-5 seed and a 7-9 unless their shooters get hot. But again I don’t see Illinois being a game but your eyes tell you it will at SSAH. Which I disagree with you on that and Vice versa. We will see.

I’ve watched every Marquette game except the Bethune Cookman and Charleston Southern game. After we trashed them their next game at home they struggled with Presbyterian. They were down in the second half until they pulled away late. Also struggled with Utep. The Louisville game they probably should of lost. I had no dog in the fight but Louisville got a bad whistle and eventually lost in OT. AP ranking are what they are. A bunch of ransom writers that have their own agenda and method so I don’t sweat if IU is behind Marquette because some writer in Buffalo decided his ballot by throwing darts at a board or a writer in Syracuse was hungover Monday morning and didn’t turn one in. Lol. As far as resumes go IU has the better one plus won the head to head battle. In the S curve IU would be higher. Right now I have IU as the last 4 seed and Marquette as the first 6 seed

Yeah I could see them end up higher due to conference strength. The B1G is going to be a gauntlet. The B1G East isn’t bad but I don’t see any high end teams. B1G has a couple I believe and a few really solid/good teams. Going to be a fun conference.

Yeah B1G is going to be really fun to watch. BIG East is about as low as it’s been since the new B1G East started. Nova is down, Xavier is down compared to where they have been. The Big east and Butler needed that game Saturday way more then IU did. Big east could face way happened to the B1G last year. They could have a team with a good league record not get in because of how poorly they did in non conference. Even with Marquette’s defense problems they might be the favorite this year. Crazy

I’m not picking sides. I just think it’s a wash at this point besides us thrashing Marquette.

 

One could easily argue we shouldn’t have won the NW, Butler, Louisville games as we trailed for almost the entire game and won by the faintest of margins.

 

I’m sure similar arguments could be made about Marquette and most other teams.

 

Don’t get me wrong. I love that we are ranked and think we are pretty good but we arent thumping anyone decent besides that Marquette game.

 

As for the Illinois game. We handle them at SSAH just fine. I’m just not expecting a definite Win AT Illinois like many of the people on here are. Frazier and Dosunmu could be problems and they will have a good home atmosphere.

I still don’t know how the ncaa ruled that he can play right away but Mark Smith is shooting 48% from 3 this year for Missouri. Missouri up 9 on Xavier.
Make sure you tune into the Border war game this year between Missouri/Illinois
