Well, they are incredibly efficient.....13th in the nation in efficiency, so they do put the ball in the basket compared to their possessions.  I don't like watching them because of the slow tempo.  The truth is that slow tempo will allow them to stay in games against superior talent but also allow some inferior teams to hang around because of the decreased number of possessions.

I know this isn't the coaching candidate thread, but for this reason I wouldn't have had Bennett on the level I would have had Stevens or Beard and possibly Stevens is on his own level for a multitude of reasons. In summary I don't think Bennett would step in and be the "homerun" hire we all wanted unless he got a whole lot more talent on the transfer market in year 1. These 20-21 Hoosiers were god awful on the offensive end and I'm not sure Bennett would step in and cure all that, or get enough talent enthused to jump on board for the 21-22 season like Stevens would. In terms of tiers I, personally, would have had Bennett further down my wish list just because I've seen the 4 years of Archie ball and it wouldn't seem much of a departure from that from a play style.

Even with the national title, Bennett will always have the stain on his resumé of not just losing to a 16 seed, but completely being at the mercy of a 16 seed because his teams can only play at one speed. If we live long enough to see another 16 beat a 1, there's no way it will be anything close to that.

That's the worst part about that game. They redeemed themselves the year after obviously. But UMBC didn't just barely escape with the historic win. They blew Virginia out by 20.

Speaking on just the Beard part...Texas Tech doesn’t play a whole lot faster than UVA. Their past few years on offense have been in the mid/high 200s nationally in tempo. Not sure what they do on defense compared to Archie - I’m sure Demo or one of our smarter basketball people could speak to that - but I’m not seeing how Beard’s style is much different than what we’ve been watching based on what I’ve seen.

We just need to be faster than water going uphill.

Dolson certainly has a tough decision to make now then, doesn't he? Would have been quite the perfect storm if Stevens said yes, but he didn't so honestly not sure who IU goes after now. Would appear their is quite the drop off from Stevens if he was the "perfect" candidate.

Not sure where that metric lands in the 1-357 ranking, but we played faster than UVA and TTU the last 3 seasons.

Dolson is a pretty cool guy, but I’m sure glad I’m not him right now.

But...back to general college basketball discussion. My apologies, Mailman!

I was actually talking about Diakite lol. That floater. I get what you’re saying though. Kyle Guy was clearly their best player
Thought you were talking about TY Jerome. They had a good squad..... obviously

Virginia was dead last this season at 357.  Texas Tech was 316 and Indiana was 291.

In 2020, Virginia was 353, Texas Tech was 236 and Indiana was 206.

In 2019 (when Virginia won the title), Virginia was 353, Texas Tech was 231, and Indiana was 262.

And yes, I don't like to watch Virginia play....but I would have rather watched Virginia play than IU any day of the week the last three years.

Oops on 2019. Not so good at the maths.
