Uspshoosier Posted February 1, 2020 Posted February 1, 2020 Anyone else excited for the Ivy League 4 team tournament to determine the at large bid? Going to be one of the most underrated mid major tournaments this year in March. My guess is Penn, Harvard, Princeton and Yale Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mamasa and BGVille Hoosierfan 2 Quote

Least exiting time for me. I don’t care about any of them. Last games of the regular season that decide a conference champ are more exciting. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app Quote
Uspshoosier Posted February 1, 2020 Posted February 1, 2020 San Diego State will get a 1 seed if they are undefeated. Why is that hard to understand? Every single team since seeding began in 1978 has gotten the 1 seed. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBannersTough game tomorrow night at home. Their resume is solid even if they lose 1 game Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app Quote

But I have to say I would take that region of the bracket all day over one with Baylor as the 1-seed and Duke as the 2-seed. Maybe it’s just optics, but I would take potentially playing a relatively untested San Diego State team on the way to a final four over a traditional power 5 program who has played and beaten brand name teams all conference season and is stocked with McD’s All-Americans. Nothing against SDS either, I felt the same way earlier in the season when bracketology had us as a 9-seed with a potential matchup with 1-seed Butler. Yes please was my only reaction. Maybe but Kentucky has a hell of a time in 2014 with Wichita State and that was a hell of a game. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app Quote

Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app Totally respect that. And it might work out that SDS rolls into the final four and were that good all year. I’m just saying, if you had your choice, and you could pick your region, it would be hard not to take the SDS 1-seed region, given they haven’t played against a ranked team all year (I realize Iowa is now ranked, but they weren’t) and barely beat a 7-15 San Jose St. team by 2 points at home three weeks ago. Me personally, I’m playing the percentages and avoiding Baylor, Kansas, Duke, Louisville, Gonzaga or Florida St. all day and taking the route through undefeated SDS to the FF. Quote

I guess it depends what seed I am. Kentucky was an 8 or 9 seed but they also had some ridiculous talent on that team. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app Quote
Loaded Chicken Sandwich Posted February 1, 2020 Posted February 1, 2020 Personally I wish the Big Ten would either get rid of the Big Ten tournament or move it. Get rid of it and be able to move all Big Ten games past all or most non conference games. Or move it to before Big Ten schedule begins and seed it by prior year standings. Just as a show event. And with how things are going towards paying players... all expenses paid vacation from the Big Ten to the winner? Sure why not. NOLA Hoosier Posted February 1, 2020 Posted February 1, 2020 I mean there was the preseason NIT. I think a B1G tournament before the conference is actually a good idea. Kinda pointless after a winner is declared in my book. Quote

Kinda pointless after a winner is declared in my book.Has a team who wasn’t going to make the tournament ever won the Big Ten tournament? Have a weekend event after the non conference schedule. I’d even go as far as making it like an NBA All-Star weekend with a skills challenge, dunk contest and 3pt contest with games surrounding it. And then give the guys a little time off before conference schedule begins. I wouldn’t give the winner an auto-bid for the tourney but I think you could find some sort of incentive. AKHoosier Posted February 1, 2020 Posted February 1, 2020 Conference tournament week is probably the most exciting time of the year. Tons of great games, and it feels like the whole week is Christmas Eve with Selection Show on Sunday and the tournament following a few days later. Can't wait. What would be more exciting for the regular season is to only have the top 8 teams make the conference tourneys. Other sports have a cut off point for their conference tournaments, why are the basketball tourneys a giant participation trophy event? Imagine the battles in the B1G this year where making the conference tourney would basically guarantee an NCAA bid. It would also clear up some TV time for the mid-majors to play some meaningful games on a national platform. Hovadipo 1 Quote
