Str8Hoosiers Posted March 9, 2016 Posted March 9, 2016 Its the teams record that qualifies them for the tourney. Not the coaches record. If we toss the losses without Boeheim we must also toss the wins. At that point we,are talking a 14 win season. Also, Wisconsins record will be judged with pre Gard numbers. Not to mention that the missed games was due to NCAA sanctions. So, certainly should be consequences. But isn't the coach part of the team? So a 14 (I think 15 wins actually) win season out of 20 games isn't good? That equates to around a 20-21 win season if it were out of 30 games... Not #1 seed worthy, but a Major Conference team with that type of record almost surely makes the tourney yearly... Gard I believe is in a different situation but he is 13-6 in the 19 games he has coached this season... extrapolate that using the same method I did for Boeheim and that is a 19 win season and most likely missing the bubble.... most certainly on the bubble... he has 4 good wins and 1 bad loss.... I think they will be very happy to use the whole season as a measuring stick here. Also we are talking about missing games from a HOF coach and using an assistant to leas the team.... vs Missing games from a 1st time head coach and in that time having a HOF coach leading the team. Str8Hoosiers Posted March 9, 2016 Posted March 9, 2016 i agree the head coach is a valuable part of the team and their record shows you first hand the importance of a coach. I feel they should take in account these games without him because he put the team in the position of having to play the games without him. If the committee decided to not count the games he didn't coach then what was the point of suspending him in the first place. Actions have consequences or at least should have. In my opinion they should be counted for that reason. I can imagine their fans are going to be saying if we would of landed Bryant we would of been top 15. Thank you again Thomas for picking iu I can see this line of thinking... counting the losses as part of the punishment basically. I do think the games will be considered, just maybe not quite as heavily as the games when Boeheim was at the helm.... The punishment is the losses during the suspension and I agree they should be considered losses, but just think that if i was on the committee and my job was to put the best teams in the bracket I would have to consider the facts that some of their losses were endured without their leader. Uspshoosier Posted March 9, 2016 Posted March 9, 2016 I really don't think who we play Friday will have any bearing on our seeding, unless we lose. IMO the only games that will improve our seeding would be the potential Saturday/Sunday games.if we beat Michigan another top 75 rpi would only help the team resume when comparing to other resumes imo Quote

This is a quote from the committee chairman And I agree with the Committee chair... to pretend he's not a difference maker is a mistake. That doesn't mean they won't consider the games without him at all... just that he understands the fact that the team was playing without him... I don't really know what he was saying but that is how I took it. And again not trying to argue, I was just legitimately curious on your (& biteoftheapple) opinion on a coach not mattering and not factoring into a teams existence/record/etc.... Just thought interesting conversation. Quote

Is the committee's job to put the best teams in the tournament( basically eye test) or best team resumes. That's why it will be interesting what they do with whicita st this year. They are obliviously one of the best 36 at large teams if you go by eye test. No way do they have one of the best 36 at large resumes Quote

They are obliviously one of the best 36 at large teams if you go by eye test. No way do they have one of the best 36 at large resumes How much difference is there between the 2? The 36 best teams most likely contain at least 33 of the best resumes.... And the 36 best resumes are most likely owned by at least 33 of the best (eye test) teams.... so we are talking about trying to differentiate between those last few outliers.... (numbers are just the guess of a hoops junkie, I have no data to back up this claim) I think the eye test is appropriate when considering how a team finished the season (which they supposedly don't consider anymore)... but when it comes to an entire season if the team really looks that good then they should have put together a good looking resume. I have only watched a small amount of Wichita St this year for example but I wouldn't necessarily consider them one of the 36 best... maybe I have just seen there off games and not when they are looking great but I would have Michigan, Pitt, Syracuse ahead of them and maybe Uconn, Cincinnati, Ohio St. as well... cjvz20 Posted March 9, 2016 Posted March 9, 2016 I think right now have to be a 3 seed in sorry but Bigten champs at 15-3 seriously they schedule is what it is we beat the teams at home by 20 and on the road had wins. Hutch89 1 Quote

The job is a lot harder then many think and the amount of time they spend in selecting teams has to be tiresome. I have watched a ton of college basketball and compared many resumes over the course of the year and I couldn't imagine narrowing the last 6-8 teams down. Lunardi actually used to run a course online at st Joseph's that was devoted to bracketology. He didn't do it this year but he as said he will probably do it again.
