CTC Presser on WTHR @ 12:30 ET

Recommended Posts

I thought Crean did a great job today. He can sometimes be short when challenged by the media, and often full of "coach speak", but today he was open, kind of pulled the curtain back a bit, and took the time to let the media ask what was needed and answer them.

I thought he did a lot to help himself, though as Bronk said the proof will be in the pudding.

Agree BGleas.

People always spout off before they have all the information. I thought Crean did a good job in the presser ----most programs don't publicly talk about these issues---but IU had to because of the very public arrests and accident.

As I stated a few days ago-----it's the player's responsibility if they get in trouble. It's the Coach's responsibility to come up with the proper punishment. We can't blame Coach for DD's injury--but we can question how he responds to it.  If players have serious or continued/multiple violations going forward---then those players should be shown the door regardless of who it is.  Without naming names--- that has happened in the past.

The same people who want to blame Crean for everything negative that happens do not want to give him credit for all of the positives---like grades, graduation rate, etc.  I believe we have good kids at IU---they just need to grow up and this latest incident should speed up that process.

You are right BlueDevil---imo UNC and Cuse have more serious issues as far as institutional control problems--- but our self-inflicted problems are giving them a media pass right now.

I talked to a Syracuse fan about their hearing the other day. "I don't think they would punish the current team for it, I mean it happened all the way back in 2012!"

Some people.

Curious that we made PTI yet I don't remember anything about Syracuse or UNC on the show lately.

yep. We need Sage Steele to protect IU like the impenetrable force that is UNC! For the record, I'm still pissed at the lack of coverage from ESPN on UNC! In case anyone thought I'd dropped it. Haha.

It's embarrassing how quiet ESPN has been on the UNC thing. Jameis Winston or Johnny Maziel sell autographs and they lead SportsCenter for weeks, UNC has 20 years of fraudulent classes for athletes and not a peep. I even heard Mike and Mike try to pass the scandal off as rogue academic advisors who have now been fired.

I have never understood what made the NCAA tick. There’s been a history of inconsistencies and "looking the other way" for some programs. I’m not sure I’d call it "corrupt", but then again, not sure that I would not use that word.

Compare situations like UCLA, John Wooden and Sam Gilbert with things like IU, Hanner and the HOPE foundation. Maybe there was a significant difference, or that the rules and expectations changed over the years, I can’t say. But the crap that went on is SoCal was egregious, yet Wooden is held up as legend. The crap that’s gone on over the years is mind boggling. The stuff at UCONN with Calhoun; Syracuse and Boeheim, UNC and Williams, and there are plenty more. Yet the sanctions never seem to come. But let a scumbag coach make too many phone calls (a "violation" that no longer exists in the rule book) and our program gets trashed.

I feel your pain!

Let's weigh these two:  1)widespread academic fraud; versus 2)bumper stickers from years ago?

RIDICULOUS!

To me, its the Mayberry police dept. trying to do work suited for the FBI. They'll snag guys signing autographs or having an extra dessert with dinner, but they need the State or Feds to deal with tax evasion or a school's accreditation before they get into the bigger issues like salaried players or academic fraud.
