Kepner Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 I see Lyle and Kasongo in a lot the same light. They are both kids who were catered to and told how great they were and they both are now having to eat some humble pie. The question is how will they respond from their disappointing circumstances? Will they be bitter or use it as a chance to grow up and get hungry? I don't know what IU ends up doing---but I do know IU is keeping in contact with both. They are talented----I vote no to both right now---but we shall see! I think there is a bigger difference. Kasongo's problems seemed to be more grades. The kid is from Canada, with what I guess are immigrant parents. Moved around a lot of schools here in the US, so it came off as mysterious to a lot of programs. Lyle I think is just a head case. Grades as well, but mostly I think he is a bad apple. If Kasongo develops into something I wouldn't mind IU keeping an eye on him, but unless Yogi and JBJ leave for the NBA after this year (Which I don't think they will) I want IU to stay as far from Lyle as they can rebelhoosier848891 and GloryDays 2 Quote
rebelhoosier848891 Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 Good points Kepner---I still vote no on both for now. Quote
djsalway Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 I would say no as of right now, but if the kid can truly get his head on straight, we still need a backup for Yogi in years to come and Lyle has great talent. Therefore, I'd keep in touch just to see if he can get himself together. It doesn't hurt anything to stay in the picture for the time being. WayneFleekHoosier and rebelhoosier848891 2 Quote
JSHoosier Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 SO, is he back on IU's radar for 2015? I know everyone wants to avoid him but I wonder what the staff thinks? My personal decision would be to avoid at all costs, just curious. ND Kendrick has vouched for him over and over. No Nein Nyet LazOffTheBench, Napleshoosier, Kepner and 2 others 5 Quote

schoosier Posted October 11, 2014 Posted October 11, 2014 Does Lyle have a criminal record or past experiences with lawlessness? I know he walked out on his high school team in a game but other than that what are his other crimes? To me it seems the ones here who don't want him are the same ones cheering and singing praises for members of our current team with a dui and illegal consumption convictions. If you're willing to give them a second chance, how can you not give a first chance to a recruit that 1. Can flat out play 2. Has not committed any crimes to my knowledge? Please explain all of those in the camp that say no way to giving him a chance? Maybe you are aware of other pending charges against him I am not privy to. WayneFleekHoosier Posted October 11, 2014 Posted October 11, 2014 I see what schoosier is spitting tbh. Kid is clearly academically challenged. Kid clearly lacks a strong parental figure. But is he really a bad kid?? He seemed to have a great year at Huntington Prep. He seemed to get along well with Lyles and Blackmon. Idk, I have mixed emotions. He could be a Hollowell type result of a kid that is skilled without the off the court skills. Or he could be a "rescued" teenager that achieves ridiculously due to talent and a chip on the shoulder. I really don't know. If it doesn't lead anywhere, I'm not upset but as a few others mentioned it is worth keeping a close eye on. Particularly if we miss Shake. Stuhoo Posted October 12, 2014 Posted October 12, 2014 Many things in this world surprise me. Jaquan Lyle attending Indiana University would not surprise me. Not one little bit. Not at all. Quote

I, unfortunately, agree. Don't get me wrong, I hope he turns things around for himself and becomes successful. And if that happens, I'd LOVE to have him. He's a great talent. But, from what I know and have heard, the current version of Jaquan Lyle is scary. Quote

I'm with you. Especially if Shake goes elsewhere. I think having Blackmon around would help keep him in line. I would still prefer not have him tho. Quote

I don't really want Lyle but I am also am not someone who is "cheering and singing praises for members of our current team with a duo and illegal consumption convictions". Not cool to stereotype man lol. I've just heard he is a head case, could be wrong, but I just don't think we need a head case or another guard for that matter hahah But if he ended up here, I would support him. I just think the chances are slim. We've gone after him hard twice now. Before his first commitment and after he de-committed. Maybe if we are the only ones going after him he will come. Quote
rebelhoosier848891 Posted October 12, 2014 Posted October 12, 2014 Almost every team takes on a few tough cases----but the tricky part is to not let it upset the balance/chemistry of the team. Can't blame IU for watching his development----not interested yet but we will see how he progresses. I like our team chemistry right now and remember the old saying: "it only takes one bad apple to ruin the whole bunch"! The question is how much of a bad apple is he really and does he mature over the next year? We don't know the answers to these questions----but I can tell you imo he's way more talented than Hollowell. Worth watching...... Kepner 1 Quote
rebelhoosier848891 Posted October 12, 2014 Posted October 12, 2014 Lots of chatter that Lyle may be available at semester break from IMG and that IU is till showing interest. Some chatter that he may be coming to Hysteria----nothing confirmed. This makes it sound like we are out of it for Shake and still looking for our future pg----anybody got any info? Quote
Hovadipo Posted October 12, 2014 Posted October 12, 2014 I've heard that Lyle wants nothing to do with going to college. He just wants to play ball and not do the school thing. It's worked for some, but it's also pretty bold for someone that's been described as lazy as far as keeping himself in shape. If it says anything, his twitter bio still says he's a Duck. Well we couldn't bring him in at semester break so no worries there. Quote
rebelhoosier848891 Posted October 12, 2014 Posted October 12, 2014 I brought this up about a month ago---just reading tea leaves here---but by sending staff to see Kasongo recently and still looking at Lyle---I am not even sure we are done with 2014 recruiting yet. They could come at semester break. Don't ask me where the scholly comes from but remember Zags said IU was willing to take both Holt and Kasongo if they would come even though we only had one scholly left at the time.. I am betting Crean has a tentative scholly situation worked out with one of our current recruits----only thing that makes sense to me. Stay tuned Hoosier Nation this is about to get interesting! rebelhoosier848891 Posted October 12, 2014 Posted October 12, 2014 I agree Hovadipo most internet chatter believes Lyle goes back to Oregon after a semester at IMG to cure the grade thing. But--it does leave the door ajar for IU to get back involved if both parties are interested. Something is going on as it appears they are both at least exploring mutual interest---that's coming from IU and Southern Indiana sources. In the end I don't think this happens because we are so guard heavy and don't want to upset the chemistry. But---he is a big pg like Shake and if Shake said no---maybe staff is looking for future options? We shall see! Hovadipo 1 Quote
WayneFleekHoosier Posted October 12, 2014 Posted October 12, 2014 I'm with ya rebel. I would have loved to know how they were going to work Kasongo and Holt into the roster. I honestly wouldn't be shocked if these Lyle rumors have legs. Likely just rumors, but I've seen more surprising things. rebelhoosier848891 1 Quote
