Who Will Be IU's Next Commitment

Recommended Posts

It would be much easier to speculate who we won't get.

1. A 5 star recruit.
2. A 4 star recruit.
3. A 3star.. let me backtrack. Maybe one we beat out one out against Vandy, UAB, or South Carolina.
4. A top Indiana high school player.
5. A top Indiana, Illinois or Ohio high school player.

But alas we will get one that has a great soccer skillset that absolutely jumps out of the gym. After a couple more years of organzed ball he will be able to dunk albeit he can't dribble, catch or shoot the ball. Its great having all of those overseas scouts.

So what part of Lexington are you from? Are you excited for Big Blue Madness?

You do realize that colleges give offers to dozens upon dozens of kids each year and miss out on a ton as well. We also went hard after guys like Troy Williams, Robert Johnson, James Blackmon Jr, Stanford Robinson and Noah Vonleh over the last year or two. All the guys I just listed were recruited by top programs and Crean and his staff were able to "win".  We are not the only team that loses out on recruits.  It's very easy to sit back and only see a players ratings and make all the assumptions, but let the kids play before making an judgment. Zeisloft already started to prove that he belongs here.

See my other response. Our recruiting was red hot in 2012 thru Blackmon. Yes we landed major targets. SINCE THEN we have missed on 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th choices. We were literally left scrapping the UNrecruited! That is unheard of for a major program like IU.

Don't get me wrong, I love our core players returning and most of the new players but a very bad trend is in effect and I want it bucked soon so we don't suffer multiple bad recruiting classes which would cost us 3-4 years if it were to happen. Morgan and Milton could stave off bigger problems. If we miss on them I am not sure what our 2015 will look like.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, maybe the fans are part of the problem. The rumors created by the more powerful fans have cast uncertainty over Crean's stability as head coach at IU. Case and point, look at quotes from Eron Gordon saying that his interest in IU all depends on the coaching situation. Conveniently, this was said around the time after the Woodson to IU rumor. How is Crean supposed to sell his commitment to a recruit if everyone else is saying he won't be at IU to uphold his promises? Crean under performed and started the issue, but we may be magnifying it.

I think this is probably true! 2 Answers. Convince recruits Crean IS the answer and move forward. Or if Crean isn't the answer then move forward. The program is bigger than a coach. I want Crean to Succeed but if he isn't then changes are necessary. This season is gigantic because it will answer that question.

I hate to say it but I highly highly doubt Priller, April, or Hartman finish their career as Hoosiers. It's really a shame. I hope I am proven wrong on this one. I will be rooting for MSB and April strongly and hope they buck the trend!

I will weigh in here.... I agree that the tail end of our recruiting suffered this year and admit it had something to do with the subpar season and the public outcry of SOME of our fanbase to fire Crean.  However, I think Z3 and Holt will ultimately prove the tail end of our recruiting is better than everyone thinks!. But--any year you get a McD AA in Blackmon and a player like Rojo---the rest is icing.  Recruiting was good again this year! We need to quit whining--we have a top 20 recruiting class!  I said in another post to another thread --I think we have amassed plenty of talent to win now.  I am not ready to panic yet.  All we have to do is win this year and we will be right back on track.  If we don't win this year......then the Crean seat gets deservedly HOT!

If I asked you how to use Hanner to best put him in a position to limit his fouls while giving him the best opportunity to be successful on the court, what would you say? That's right, discussing real IU basketball you cannot do since you don't know the game. But you have a lot of posts lol.

If it were me, I would focus on a 2-3 zone to force perimeter shots and keep the ball handler away from HMP. But that still has nothing to do with your ludicrous negativity.

Completely agree. While firing a coach is never an immediate path towards success, uncertainty will certainly never create a winning program.

I am very happy we can agree on something :). No sarcasm, I am being genuine. We've disagreed on so much, particularly with recruiting, I am happy with this development.

Haha JS and I went through something similar. I'm a strong willed person, but I like to find common ground. Believe me, I'm pissed about Goodluck, DRobinson, AntLee and others as well. I just don't think recruiting is his issues. He needs to consistently coach games like he did against Wisco and Michigan last year.

I was surprised our current class was ranked in the top 20. So I think that gives us 3 or 4 top 10 classes and another top 20 we should be strong this year. Sure we lost 3 guys to the NBA and one big transferred unexpectedly but that is such a small amount of the kids from these 4 or perhaps 5 classes.

So we have several consecutive years with recruiting classes ranked high.

We have a coach who is great at finding the diamonds in the rough. This means the kids that are not ranked high are sometimes steals and thus our actual class strength/rank should be even higher.

Plus we have a coach that is great at developing talent. So even with the top guys leaving, we should be fine because Crean can take unheralded guys and develop them.

Something does not add up. The last third of the 2013 season and the 2014 season were terrible considering all this. I am hopeful we just had a few bad eggs and am expecting a top five finish in the BT.

Good points---8bucks.

Since this thread is about who our next commitment will be---it will be the recruit who thinks Crean will turn it around this year and win. That decision will undoubtedly be made in part by practicing with the team, checking out the talent and chemistry, talking to the coaches, and just getting a sense of the general vibe in the locker room and around the program. Some recruits may even want to wait for games to start to watch the team.

Its our fault Crean can't coach. Or maybe just mine since I tend to be in the minority here. Crean created his own instability by the product on the floor. Man, I have heard it all now. Blame the fans/alumni.

Eh there are special occasions where fans should be looked at for some of the issues. Such as when some take to tweeting at recruits to star away from IU as long as Crean is here because the program is a dumpster fire. That serves as nothing but to try and sabotage the coaching staff by seeking to hurt recruiting. Of course you can argue that moron ceases to be a fan by doing something like that

Go back and read the last sentence I wrote. It said, "Crean under performed and started the issue, but we may be magnifying it."

I am not blaming the fans for our on the court issues, or even the off the court behavior issues. I believe that the booing when there are recruits on at the game, buyout rumors created by fans, and constant negativity and bashing of Crean in forums and on social media is magnifying the issue for all recruits potentially interested in IU to see. We didn't start the fire, but we are throwing a whole lot of wood into it.

I'm always amazed at some of the criticism Crean gets, no matter how much there is. There is so much evidence to the contrary but it's as if some of these people want him to fail, so they will be proven "right." They want him to fail, they truly do...

i don't think people want to see him fail, they don't want to see the team fail but they want them to be at the top year in an year out like osu, wis, msu, even mich lately an their is no reason y iu shouldn't be.

I certainly don't want to see Crean fail. I want him to get us back on top, competing every year for a chance to win the championship. Some people think that getting a new coach will quickly solve IU's problems but unless we get a really "big name", that's not going to happen. Hiring a new coach is always a risky business.

Back to topic: I think Shake will be our next commit.

Good discussion! We may get frustrated with our Coach at times ---or some of our fanbase that spews constant negativity--but we should also be able to go to a message board and discuss our differences and agreements. I hope any potential recruits who do read these posts understand that this is just further proof of the passion that IU basketball fans have for their program!

And I still think Shake Milton is our next recruit.
