The Grilling Thread

Recommended Posts

Don't have pictures, but I grilled stuffed burgers last night: bacon, onions, and cheddar cheese & mushroom and onions.

They were really good, just needed some salt and pepper. Also grilled steak and chicken k-bobs, along with some shrimp ones as well. Loved it!

I've never used Mangrates specific brand but my kenmore has cast iron grates and once seasoned they are phenomenal! I have a searing section but I got the grill in late fall and haven't had a chance to try it out.

Finally got a wind-free evening to test out the Mangrate.

The burger on the right is a bison burger from Omaha Steak. Came out absolutely excellent!

Would love to upload a photo of the elk steak I grilled tonight but since I get errors, you'll just have to believe me that they were fantastic! Caramelized onion, sautéed glazed mushrooms, roasted Brussels Sprouts, and pan fried potatoes. It's time to get this thread active again :)

Alright guys... Warning if you're hungry you will not want to view this!

This past Saturday I bought high quality brats and pork chops. I used J.R.'s All Purpose Seasoning (http://www.jrsbarbq.com/store/jrs-all-purpose-seasoning) as the dry rub. Refrigerated the meat in aluminum foil for about four or five hours (would have liked to let it sit overnight but I was hungry!)

I placed half a chimney of unlit coals on the grill and lit a half a chimney of coals then placed them on top of the unlit coals. I then put the Mangrate on the grill and let it heat up for about ten minutes. After which I moved the coals in an indirect heating pattern, added mesquite wood and put the meat on the grill.

After about fifteen minutes of indirect grilling I brushed the meat with J.R.'s Hot Bar-B-Q Sauce (http://www.jrsbarbq.com/store/jrs-hot-bar-b-q-sauce) and moved the meat directly over the coals for another eight minutes or so flipping once.

Ran into a little rain in the middle of my grilling (ended up being a tornado warning an hour later).

Finished product:

Wife made mashed potatoes and mashed pees with cilantro and jalapeños. She got the recipe from trying Nando's and made them better.

Anyone have experience with Top Blade Steaks?  We just got hit by flooding in Columbus and a friend's freezer went down.  Me, being the nice guy I am, offered to take some meat for him.  I'm not finding a lot online, other than braising is the best method.  If anyone has suggestions, I'd love to grill/braise these guys tonight!
