Big Men

Recommended Posts

Do any of ya'll have any insight on Peter Jurkin? The only thing that I ever see about him, is that he has battled injuries throughout his career. I know that it is tough losing Noah, but its not as if we don't have some size still here. As I sit here watching the tourney, I see a LOT of bigs that are getting pt, but they are not nec. great players. I guess I just don't see how a player gets better unless they actually play. Before anyone thinks that I am ragging on Crean , I saw RMK do that a lot over the years
as well. Gonzaga, for example, seems to get new bigs every year. A couple that I can remember were not that good when they were young, but developed into solid post men.

Jurkin won't contribute.  He had leg injuries in high school too that limited his development and he's still battling them, and on top of that he hasn't been playing the game long because he grew up in a different country.

I guess I understand wanting to test Jurkin and see what he can do, to see if he can produce. I get the attitude and issue with him taking up a scholarship and not actually contributing to any meaningful minutes. But I don't see the benefit of trying to the dude out there in Big Ten play, he has the health issues, and the few minutes we've seen of him were just so much of nothing of substance. I hope in the future Crean stops taking on these projects of big men like he has way too often here, it isn't working, so stop.

I don't get the attitude that if he's not playing he shouldn't be taking up a scholarship.  He's the 13th man, the 13th man doesn't play much if at all anywhere.

You answered your own question.

Then give him a medical hardship where he keeps his scholarship, sits just like he does now, and allows us to actually get a big that can contribute. I just scratch my head knowing he took a verbal from PJ all the while you have Mcgary and Hammons right here in Indiana that he didn't get.

Lot of talent but dude has 0 motivation.

If he ends up as Dieng the big man issue we're all worried about is just not actually an issue at all

I honestly don't know what the big fuss about Jurkin is. We have seen him in sample sizes in garbage time and no one knows if he is healthy. I say stick him in there and see what he brings to the table if he's healthy. Hopefully he adds some muscle this summer. I'm not considering him dead weight just yet.

The only reason Jurkin is at IU still is because he was the first member of the "movement" to commit, and after securing commitments from the other guys of that class, CTC didn't want to remove the poor guy's scholarship and leave him out in the cold just because he committed soon. BtownBanners

Check his grades out. I think thats more plausable as to why he is still here.
