Indiana is on the NIT Bubble...

Recommended Posts

Yikes. What a difference a year makes. The NIT field is filling quickly this year as regular season conference champions are losing their conference tournaments.

For those who don't know, the NIT had a rule that they will take every regular season conference champion who doesn't make the NCAA tournament. Usually this isn't a huge deal, but this year there have already been 11 automatic bids to the NIT and there could be 6 more today.

Overall, the NIT has 32 teams. Indiana could be on the outside looking in.

I've found two NIT Bracketology reports out there (I've never looked for this before, so I have no idea how good they are) , but one has Indiana as a 6 seed opening at Wisconsin Green Bay (http://www.bracketmatrix.com/nit.html), and the other has us OUT of the tournament. (http://www.nycbuckets.com/2014/03/nit-bracketology-march-15/)

Looks like we'll be sweating the bubble after all... Let's just pray that if we don't make the NIT, we turn down the CBI offer. Indiana has turned that tournament down once already in the Crean era.

Everyone (including Indiana) is talking about I.U. playing in the N.I.T. If Nebraska, Minnesota, and Illinois aren't selected to the NCAA tournament there is no place for the Hoosiers in the N.I.T. It will be the CBI pay to play for I.U. Thats what I'm seeing anyway. I posted this yesterday on Facebook.

Get over it people... We had a bad year. Time to move on. It's almost spring and the weather will soon be warm. So take your anti depressants and grow a pair. Everyone is acting like self entitled children. It is hard to consistently win in college ball, now more than ever. It takes everyone going in the same direction. The iu fan base has probably done more damage to recruiting this week than ever. Chill out. The world is still spinning.

This isn't a "bad" year.  This is a "WTF" year.  Missing the tournament with a 68 team field is inexcusable.

I don't get why people click a thread knowing what's going to be said and yet they still complain about people's reactions. You know what the thread is about when you click it. If you don't want to read what they said about us missing the NIT don't click the thread. Pretty simple.

Take 68 teams, add 32 more NIT teams and we might miss a tournament with a 100 team field.

No question and I am not saying crean is the right guy, but regardless of that he is here for the next few years, at least. So it might be time to calm down a little bit. We haven't won a title in 27 years, it's going to take time to be a consistent winner. It took duke 16 years before they went on their consecutive NCAA appearance streak(16 years after coach k was hired)! 16!!!! But we have some great pieces here and better pieces coming in. I trust Fred glass to make the right decisions regarding iu athletics.

Not really. So say we have a potential recruit considering IU. If he is also considering OSU, do you think that Matta is not using our futility this year against us? You think he is not also showing Creans record in the last quarter of the year to recruits?

You could argue that allowing mediocrity to continue instead of making a change is more damaging.

Anyone who is getting all antsy on this either way needs to, as you say, grow a pair and let it play out. If Crean stays he has enough talent on the team to do better next year even if we do not get the two recruits we are looking to add to the class. Neither will solve our problems is Noah leaves and we are not hurting for wings.

Coach K's first NCAA appearance at Duke was in his 4th year at Duke. Your stat got messed up somewhere.

remember when the NCAA was considering making the tournament 128 teams a couple of years ago?
I'm wondering if the current Hoosiers would have even made the cut for that field??
