The source claims that several prominent IU boosters are pushing to buy out Crean and install Woodson, a product of Indianapolis, as the coach."

I would be curious as to whom the "source" is...that paragraph alone is making some drastic reaches, and assumptions
Worst thing about journalism IMO is how everyone has 'sources' but don't name them. Makes an easy Op-Ed entry appear factual.

What is this article and talk going to help? What is the end goal?

Moot point. New York Daily News. I somehow highly doubt that this information is coming out of Hoosierland, unless the source is/or has read the message boards from about a month ago, and took that rumor and tied it into their local interest story (Knicks). Now that the article is out there, it will be talked about. Is it going to help? Probably won't make any difference at all. End goal? You would have to ask the "source", which may be somebody just doing a lot of speculating. I can't see boosters shelling out this kind of money to get rid of CTC, just to install a coach who would be a unproven commodity in college basketball coaching.

That's all I was stating in my post. I back my university 100% first and foremost. It is in the best interest of the university's basketball team for this talk to stop.

The talk rarely ever stops, doesn't matter who the coach is or what school its at. There is always talk. You hear less in the good years, but its there.

Boosters with money never cease to amaze me.

Agreed. I could say my sources tell me the sky is falling and people would believe it just because I had sources.

Supposedly the difference between sources from regular people and news organizations is that reporters usually have to report their sources to their editors to see if their stories hold water. I'm not sure about sports editors though.

Edit: However, being a New Yorker the Daily News is tough to gage. They had reputable journalists like Mike Lupica, but they also had their share of tabloid hunters as well.

timing is everything and in addition i think we owe CTC the finish to his contract. We want the kids to stay, we want committs to honor their committs so we must honor ours. We had a down year, we lost two top 5 NBA picks. We developed a lot of youthful talent this year and if hopefully Noah stays to hone himself on the court and develop as a young man as well we get some more talent next year. I like the look of these what will be second and third year folks, gotta believe, gotta believe!!!

How does that work? Does the editor check with the source or could the writer just lie about who their source is?

The latter, but if you get caught you are unemployed, and unemployable as a legit journalist.

Thanks. I have no idea how it works as a real journalist so it was general curiosity.

Anytime I hear "sources" I begin to doubt whatever it is. Also, I'm sick of this talk. Not been a good year but what crean has done up to this year should get him a couple years without this garbage. If iu has another bad year next year, then talk. All this does is hurt crean's ability to recruit and his credibility with his current players. Iu fans beat their chests and say we are indiana and we are better than this. Are we really? What have we won/done since the core of early nineties teams graduated? Not much. It is time we get over ourselves and let crean do his thing next year. If next year is not very successful then let him feel the heat. Until then, let the man work.

Sent from my LG-E980 using BtownBanners mobile app

Well, Woodson is almost definitely getting fired this year. If boosters/AD think he is the best candidate for the job, they might make a play for him. He won't be on the market this time next year.

Larry Brown was in a similar situation not too long ago and has done a fantastic job with SMU.

Here's another domino for you: since Phil Jackson will most likely not be on the sidelines coaching, a lot of names have popped up as Woodson replacements. John Calipari is one of the more prominent names on that list. Wouldn't it be great to have that guy out of college bball (at least for a little while)? Maybe Woodson can bring Trey Lyles back into the fold. You never know.

Living in Atlanta, and watching what Woody did with what amounted to one of the worst NBA teams I have ever seen,(and I am a huge NBA fan) I'd support the move 100%. Don't let his NBA record scare you, he had NOTHING to work with here, ownership in disarray(actually suing one another) and he built a winner! The Hawks GM was Billy Knight, and Billy couldn't draft a "for sure" player if you put a gun to his head, the owners were in court with each other, and the players were a hodge podge of bad picks, and re-runs, and he built a WINNER!

In New York he has done a great job in turning them around and having a 50 win season just last year, and if working for James Dolan isn't a handicap, I don't know what would be!

Woody CAN coach, he could get players attention, his resume, coaching tree and mere presence would garner attention, think about it, who he worked for, who coached him as a player, the development of the teams he has coached. If it were to happen, and I doubt it would, bringing home a Hoosier, to coach the Hoosiers with his experience, I don't think even the doubters would be disappointed!

As a Knicks fan I can see our stupid owner hiring Calipari, but I would hope that Coach Phil Jackson is smart enough to hire someone else.

Just heard in ESPN 1070 the fan an IU booster has called in and addressed the issue saying he's been getting many calls from various boosters saying they in fact want crean gone. He also said that there is a RUMOR that 2-3 players will be gone NOT including Vonleh and the seniors.
