IU fans stay supportive and look to next year.

Recommended Posts

It's been a year to forget, happens to most programs. 5 of the last 6 losses we've led at half. We've led by 10+ 4 times and lost. Shooting is awful and turnovers are unacceptable.
Ok so I hit the negative identified so we don't have to harp on that. Looking to the future with hope. Yes I have questions but that's the beauty of college ball, who knows who will show up and become a super star. Or at least God I hope someone does.

My thing is it isn't like we are just going to be replacing the roster. Most of these guys are going to be back. JBJ and Rojo are nice pieces, but I don't know if they will put us over the top. I expect some growth, but the expectations I had for next year at the outset of this year have certainly diminished.

"There's always next year". So this is what it feels like to be a Cubs fan.

I don't see the team being as good as some people seem to expect (on another board one person said they expect us to compete for the national title). How? Williams and Robinson will be back with experience, but remember the Victor we remember wasn't like that until he was a junior as a sophomore his shot was inconsistent in midrange and nonexistent from deep. Williams has about as far to go with his shot as Vic did, and Stan right now isn't much better. Blackmon may have some growing pains as a frosh, although the McD's AAs we've gotten have done well. Johnson will almost assuredly have to adjust as most frosh do. So if Vonleh leaves we're replacing the need of shooters with the need of a big man.

Will we be better, yes. I'm just not seeing a great team, I see solid/mediocre as opposed to awful. This team is underachieving even by low standards so maybe a 9 seed or so and an early exit (which I expected this year).

So many take criticism for lack of support. Lack of support is really more apathy than criticism. If criticism is lack of support and we are supposed to always support our team then by that definition we could never complain.

Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners

I'd feel better about this season if I felt like the team has improving steadily heading into March but it still just seems so random to me. We still lose so many games the same way we have all season long. The inspired wins like vs Wisky and vs Michigan seem like aberrations. I'm sticking by the observation that our hopes for next season are going to be made or broken by the work these kids do over the summer, not what happens from here on out. If these kids bust ass and develop improved chemistry and cohesiveness over the summer months, that is a strong start to get backing on track.

I hear everyone talking about players next year, but if the problem is coaching then it really doesn't matter.

Players are a problem which only adds to the coaching problem.

Guys it could we worse. We could be rooting for Butler. Man, they are TERRIBLE!!

Notre Dame is pretty awful too, but they did beat us. Although that was before Jerian Grant was dismissed from the team and he did have 23 points in that game. I'm pretty confident we would beat them now.

And we will only have 3 freshmen on the team next year (unless we sign someone in the spring).

Unfortunately, people will want our 3 Freshman (probably 1 of which should get starters minutes) to play like upperclassmen and when they don't, expect them to transfer "because they suck". (See: This year and last year)

So far all we have scheduled for next year (according to ITH at least) is Louisville in MSG and Butler at BLF. Of course, we know we will get a home game in the B1G/ACC Challenge. I hope you're right about the tougher schedule, but Crean loves him some cupcakes. I guess I just have to see it to believe it. We need to avoid the sub 250 schools (or as I call them RPI killers). They give no benefit.

I'm not one of them. I think Blackmon will start with some growing pains, but the others I think will look like typical freshman.

Agreed. I think Blackmon will eventually grow into a big part of a solid, but not great team. Johnson will add decent minutes kind of like Stan has this year. I don't see Hoetzel providing much until he is a Sophomore or Junior.

Truth be told, I didn't want Hoetzel in the first place. I didn't really want another wing at all, but if we were going to add one I would've preferred going hard after Blueitt after he decommitted from UCLA.

If Vonleh leaves (possible) and no more talented big men come in last second for us (likely), the team will need to do something that some IU fans won't like. With a roster that's gunna be small they are gunna need to learn to run and run a lot. With some quality shooters coming in I wouldn't mind a run and gun show next year. Won't help our turnover issue but it should help raise turnover numbers of other teams. If you don't have a big man, play at a pace where big men are useless.
