HoosierHoopster Posted February 6, 2024 Posted February 6, 2024 @FortWayneHoosier -- here's a link to Paul Davids' online course descriptions. I did one of the courses for music theory - really well done, very easy to follow, he has online backing tracks, tabs, .pdf's you can put together as a notebook at your own pace. Fun stuff -- https://pauldavidsguitar.com/guitarcourses/ Stuhoo and FortWayneHoosier 1 1 Quote

JSHoosier Posted February 6, 2024 Posted February 6, 2024 One channel I like on YouTube is Marty Schwartz or Marty's Music (same person, he switched channels). He does a lot of song tutorials but also gets into regular lessons some. HoosierHoopster 1 Quote
LamarCheeks Posted February 6, 2024 Posted February 6, 2024 For some reason, this popped up on my YouTube feed today. Was over 20 years ago. A 13-year-old girl won a competition to sing the national anthem at a Blazers playoff game and soon after taking the court, got a case of stage fright and forgot the words. In stepped Mo Cheeks to lend a hand. He was Portland's head coach at the time, yet made the effort to go help this young lady through what had to be a terrifying moment. What an assist! Wasn't sure if this should go in music or the NBA thread. Regardless -- a very sweet moment. Stuhoo 1 Quote

JSHoosier Posted February 8, 2024 Posted February 8, 2024 Saw a video of The Bangles playing Hazy Shade of Winter, originally by Simon & Garfunkel, from 2019. Susanna Hoffs was 60 but I'm pretty sure she found the fountain of youth and drank it dry. Her and that Rickenbacker was a dangerous combination. And the intro to that song is pretty fun to play. upperarlington 1 Quote

FortWayneHoosier Posted February 22, 2024 Posted February 22, 2024 are you kidding me or what.............Steve Miller Band has one of the best catalogues Quote
Hovadipo Posted March 3, 2024 Posted March 3, 2024 One of The Olds can tell me if I’m late to this, but uh…Looking Glass is far from a one hit wonder. Their entire self-titled album is incredible. This song in particular. Good vibes aplenty. Quote

Love her flute. Try Bill Evans Trio: 'I Fall in Love Too Easily'. Duke Jordan: 'Two Lovers'. Art Blakely: Just pick something...anything...with or without the Jazz Messengers. Kurt Rosenwinkel: 'You've Changed'. Cedar Walton: 'Blues for Myself'. Wynton Kelly Trio: 'The Fall of Love'. Bill Taylor: 'Solace'. Lestor Young, Oscar Peterson Trio: 'Stardust'. Charlie Parker Quartet: Anything at all... I'm taking a quick sidebar from the inferno happening on this site. I have really been into some really early Herbie Hancock. I really love his "hooky" jazz style. This is fantastic! Dave from Dayton, pappy1865 and Skrappy 2 1 Quote
Demo Posted March 9, 2024 Posted March 9, 2024 Was in a foul mood this morning, which I’m sure had nothing to do with IUBB, so sent an SOS out to daughter #1 to send me some punk or garage stuff that I’d never heard. She fired back “Blood Visions” by Jay Reatard. To paraphrase Will Wade, this is a strong a$$ record. Elements of The Minutemen and The Ramones but with its own unique sort of bitterness and I really like the guitar a lot. It did the trick. Daughter #1 never misses on this stuff. Demo Posted March 11, 2024 Posted March 11, 2024 Watched the Jordan Peele movie “Nope” last night. Not one of his better efforts for me, but this song is in the movie and it really caught me. I listened to the full album this morning. It’s kind of a Bahamian folk concept album. I’m not sure I completely get it, but it’s a really compelling listen. As an aside, for anyone into Peter Gabriel, I’m gonna guess that before he recorded his 3rd album he’d heard this. There is a definite mix of flavors. Quote
Stuhoo Posted March 30, 2024 Posted March 30, 2024 Been looking for a strong, overlooked power-pop album for awhile. Found Godspeed the Shazam and it’s a really good one. The first track is complete ear candy while telling story of a losing politician. Demo Posted March 31, 2024 Posted March 31, 2024 This is so nuts. Columbia Records incomprehensible decision to try to fashion Chicago into a sort of nameless, faceless generic rock band has successfully blurred the fact that they were crazy good. And Terry Kath, Jesus, for those who only know Chicago from about 5-10 songs on AOR radio, that guy was simply 1 of the most talented guys in the history of rock. Dude could do everything. RaceToTheTop Posted March 31, 2024 Posted March 31, 2024 Had never heard of Manic Street Preachers before -- big in the UK, never hit here. Formed in the early 1990s and are still active. Really, really good. Stuhoo, Demo and mamasa 2 1 Quote

Some bands bring the sadness into a band, but that band started with Terry Kath and always had a devious insider who daydreamed of duets with Cher. :) Demo and mamasa 2 Quote
