I just got a call from my son. My 16 year old grandson was injured in football practice on Wednesday. They just go the report from the MRI and CT scan. It's not good, and I'd appreciate your prayers.

He has:

  • Complete ACL tear
  • Complete MPFL tear
  • Partial MCL tear
  • Lateral miniscus tear
  • Gastrocnemius tear
  • Tibia fracture
  • Femur fracture thru growth plate, which is still open

The doctor is very concerned about blood clots and compartment syndrome, and we are waiting to hear what the next step is. No doubt, it will involve some serious surgery, and a long, brutal recovery.

Prayers going out right now.  So very sorry for your grandson, his family and you.

Rooting like hell for the young man. He will stay tough and come through.

Praying for him and the doctors. Keep us posted so we can follow and keep praying.

Went to see Caleb (my grandson) today. He was in really good spirits, and not too much pain, due to the medication. He's not completely sure what happened, but he said that his cleat got stuck in the turf (natural grass), and got hit in the scrum. He was playing linebacker and had tied up the running back then BANG, and he collapsed.

He goes to see the orthopedic surgeon first thing Monday and they will go from there. Not sure if they will do the repairs in a single grueling surgery or if it will be a series of operations.

Appreciate all the kind words and the prayers.

My grandson saw the surgeon this morning. They are doing the femur fracture repair on Thursday, and 6-8 weeks later they will do the ligament repair. The doctor called it a "horrific injury", and said that at his age, you generally get ligaments to pop or bones to break, but rarely both.

Keep the prayers coming. Appreciate you all.

Gotta be tough for the young man knowing how long is recovery is going to take.  Do all you can to keep his spirits up and really focused on the rehab he'll undergo.

First surgery complete … femur repair done. Next surgery will be 6-8 weeks from now to do the ligament repair/reconstruction. Calf muscle should heal on its own, as should the tibia fracture.

Thanks for your prayers.

FWIW I had the full ligament redo after tearing my ACL/MCL during an IU Law School HPER intramural game at age 24.

After that surgery I had no bounce……………………Before that surgery I had no bounce!!  :)

Been many decades and my surgery knee is pretty much as good as the other one—good enough to have played 3 on 3 hoops at the city courts a few months ago on my 60th bday

When I got back home late last night I let the dogs out and apparently the wind had opened my gate and both dogs are on the loose.

One was my wife’s dog.  He’s a troublemaker. But the other is a sweetheart and she’s my daughters.  I can’t tell this little girl that she now lost her dog.  The kid has already lost too much

I found myself incredibly light headed this weekend and eventually went to the ER. Seems my heart is in Afib. New for me, but brother and both parents dealt with this. Drs seem optimistic and I have a procedure tomorrow to shock in back into rhythm.
Drs are all optimistic but I am a bit discouraged tbh. Have been able to drop about 30 lbs this year and got my BP down from high to normal as a result. So to have this set back is frustrating.
I am not sure how this will impact things but we had hoped to travel back to IN this weekend to see our new grand daughter. Then the next 2 weekends to watch our daughter play soccer (we only get to see about 1/3 of her games in person).
So I know I should be thankful it is not a major problem but getting in shape, dropping weight, changing diet was supposed to help keep this stuff at bay right.

Would appreciate your prayers for patience, thankfulness and quick healing.

Praying for a great outcome and normal heart rhythm.

Procedure went well. Back home. Hoping it keeps things right for a long time.

Unfortunately back in the hospital again. This time looking at an ablation, hopefully tomorrow. Can’t blame it on the Iowa Indiana game this time.

Doctors are awesome. Here's to having this be a solution to an already existing problem.

You got this my friend.
