WayneFleekHoosier Posted September 26 Posted September 26 Never was really on mine, but he certainly got Adams a $hitload of frequent flyer miles. I assume he’s just trying to meet the criterion for entering the ‘26 draft which would explain establishing himself as a foreign Pro rather than classing up to play in college. Can’t blame him. Even in a crazy loaded draft his window is probably 3-6 range. If you can do that you do that, even if in ‘27 he might be in play at 1. Whatever money we spent recruiting him should go towards a player we had a realistic chance of landing. I’m being semi-facetious here. On that tangent Norlander and Parrish talked about how many coaches that are complaining That they are broke. Blaming football programs etc for eating up all the money. No teams named or coaches. Indiana should have enough money to keep both flagship programs in position, but Rabjohns quote and Parrish and Norlanders discussion piqued my interest. I love football being legit, so I’m just riding this all out. Hoping basketball makes some splash on or off the court here soon. Sent from my iPad using BtownBanners mobile app Quote
Class of '66 Old Fart Posted September 26 Author Posted September 26 @Demo nailed it again. Finkelstein - Muurinen turns 19 years old in March, so whether he plays professional somewhere, or even entertains college basketball this season, he may be NBA Draft eligible in 2026. Quote

Sent from my iPad using BtownBanners mobile app I haven't been dialed in to the NIL/profit sharing issue, so this may be a dumb question. If IU, which according to Forbes (I think) had one of the most valuable basketball brands, and the B1G is printing money for it's members and football revenue has sky-rocketed in the last year.....if IU doesn't have enough $$ to go around, how does anyone else? I expect a handful of the traditionaly elite football schools (Bama, Texas, O$U) to have more cash, but shouldn't "we" be in the next tier and ahead of 90% of Div 1? Quote

The profit sharing is capped at a combined $20.5M per school for all sports. There is now an NIL clearinghouse which is supposed to make sure all the NIL deals are legit and somehow determine if they're at the proper market value. So a lot of schools are being cautious with NIL promises since they don't know if they'll be approved or rejected. Plus, they can no longer just give NIL money to someone for coming to play at the school which a lot of them seemed to be, it has to be a legit deal. Some of the donors at IU also seem to think that the rev share is bigger than what it is so that they don't need to donate as much. Hardwood83 and cybergates 2 Quote

Some thoughts for what it's worth. This is an interesting topic. Our FB revenue has not skyrocketed yet, and probably will never "skyrocket," though it has increased and should continue to increase pretty nicely and that will make a big difference. Our athletic dept is still one of the smaller ones in the the B1G/SEC, and closer to midsize if you include the B12 and ACC. I'd guess our athletic dept revenue is around #25 in the country, and a lot of the big football schools generate $50M, $100M, even $125M+ more per year than we do. As go iu bb said, the rev share is capped at $20.5M. All the P4 schools fund the $20.5M, but as you can see, it's a larger percent of athletic dept revenue for IU than the bigger football schools. That generally means bigger football schools donors don't have to fund as much of the basic athletic dept operations and they can focus more on NIL. As for basketball, a few things: - On the rev share, most P4 football schools focus 70%+ of it on football, except apparently Kentucky, who is pumping more into bball. In addition, schools without serious football programs (think the Big East) don't reach the $20.5M rev share cap, but they are able to pay some rev share (like $6M to $10M for example), and they pump most of it into basketball since they don't really have football. This has made the Big East and some other bball-only schools much more competitive in bball this year. Not good for us. - NIL is paid on top of rev share, and NIL mostly depends on what rich donors are willing to do. Having sugar daddies helps. We have a few. I'm not sure how true the rumors are of them pulling back. I'm also not sure how much the clearinghouse will limit NIL deals (my guess is very little). Bottom line is I think IUBB is #10-15 in the country in basketball roster payroll. I am quite confident that would increase if CDD shows he can coach here -- our donors would flip out with excitement. IU as an athletic dept is not big, and we don't have unlimited money for football, bball, etc. We've got to make allocation decisions. As far as I can tell, IUBB has enough to succeed, and right now in my opinion pretty much our whole bball program is riding on how good CDD is at his job. Fingers crossed we hired the right guy, from what I can tell I think there is a decent chance we did. We'll know in a few months... Home Jersey, moyemayhem and Hardwood83 2 1 Quote
Pudman Posted September 26 Posted September 26 (edited) @Pagoda there is a really good database of athletic revenue by school that you can find here https://knightnewhousedata.org/. I created a dashboard a few years back that I need to update with new data. Once I do, I’ll share with so you can see athletic revenue. I haven’t looked at the data recently, but I am certainly curious. Edited September 26 by Pudman Hovadipo and Pagoda 1 1 Quote

As I’m sure you noticed, it can be a pain to get good data, because sometimes there are unique events (like the loan the IU AD got from IU) that get counted as revenue and need to be adjusted out for comparisons sake. That makes sense. Plus, in this database private institutions are not required to report, so some are there and some are missing, which makes comparisons tricky sometimes. I’ll get around to it when life slows down. But, in my admin role at IU it never seems too. Edited September 26 by Pudman Pagoda 1 Quote

Wonder how that would work? Partizan announced his signing yesterday. So he’d play a year in the top EuroLeague and then go to college for a year? Pretty sure that would be a 1st. Guess we’ll see. My understanding of the situation is that since he played HS ball in the US, he isn't eligible for the 2026 draft. I guess there is always the possibility that he sues to try to get into the draft, but as of now that seems to be the situation. He's playing pro ball but doing whatever it takes to maintain NCAA eligibility from what I've seen. I'm not sure how that works. HoosierHoopster, Demo and Pagoda 2 1 Quote
Demo Posted yesterday at 02:29 AM Posted yesterday at 02:29 AM A friend asked me the other day about Muurinen and I told him that I assumed that ship had sailed and he’d play in Europe next year. Guess that was a bit quick. Ridiculously talented and no doubt super expensive, but, hey, you’re gonna have a bunch of open minutes available.
