January 20th through February 20th is pretty dang rough. The start and finish are agreeable.

Feels like  a 3-6 stretch and a possible 0-5 within. But then again I’m not high on this team or roster so my lens is tainted.  Hope the preseason can change my outlook on these guys.

Definitely a good early schedule for a new team in their first B1G games and learning to play together. Should help them continue to build chemistry and work out schemes and timing early on, really couldn’t have asked for a better early start

If I am comparing the schedule to the academic calendar correctly the mini-series games this year look to be Kansas State, Bethune Cookman, Chicago State, Siena, Washington & Nebraska (Thanks Hovadipo). The official email on the mini-series package should be coming soon.

I wonder if Nebraska would be in there with the semester not starting until the 12th.

DeVries could be in for some sleepless nights in the second half of January. The following narratives will all be in play:

"I knew we should have hired McCollum instead. He's recruiting better, too."

"Dusty, Dusty, Dusty!!!"

"Even Mediocre Mike could beat Purdue at home!"

It could also be “thank goodness we got the right guy… finally.”

Just sayin’ it’s possible.

At UCLA then at USC in a 4day stretch sure sucks. Do they just stay on the West coast that week?

Probably, had the same thing last year with the Oregon/Washington back to back

Dusty’s recruiting has even shocked me. He’s killing it. Curious to see what McCollum will do in the big leagues. He’s bright. He’s also at Iowa with limited resources. Ceiling is limited.

DeVries gets Indiana’s (comparatively) declining NIL budget which is very solid and better than Iowa but not elite. We’ve had a top 10 advantage for 2 years but many others have stepped up. Maybe we are top 25 or so. Going to have to outwork/out coach. Painter has ran The program that continued to prove you can be at the top without top resources. That’s where I’m at.

DeVries will make a believer out of many of he has a great season with this roster. And if not, the questions will be aplenty.

So full season has 11 road games, 2 neutral sites, 18 home games. We aren't on the road for more than 2 games at a time all season.

I see us being 11-2 when January starts. Drop Kentucky and UL, beat Marquette and Kansas State (no guarantees). That includes 2 conference wins at Minny and vs PSU.

Way too early to say with certainty how things play out. Going by instinct on paper conference season looks like 11-9 or 10-10 to me. Could see +/- 2 on either side.

Yeah I agree with the quoted parts and think this just about sums up where things stand at the moment. Personally I will always follow IUBB closely, but if this season is underwhelming, then I think the jokes about being a football school now will start to become way more of a reality. We shall see. Color me intrigued.

If top 25 budget turns into top 25 results I would expect we will all be pretty darn happy with the hire.

Probably. For most. That’s a 5-7 seed range. As bad as Indiana has been this would be a start.  We will see if this roster can achieve that.  As you know, my guess is, it won’t.  But we also had borderline top 10 resources this year.  Timing was bad.  Didn’t get the amount of talent for the money as an outsider would expect due to inflation.

At this point my expectations have been lowered immeasurably over the years.  I WANT a top ten brand. That’s where my dreams lie.  A feared program.  With results and resources.

However, my expectations are for pleasing basketball to watch.  Tournament, virtually every year. Competive efforts, as a given.

I LOVE that football is relevant again.  And I know that is VERY costly and NECESSARY. I also know at the current time our basketball resources are capped because of it.

Ive spent 25 years of my life rooting for the basketball program that rested on its laurels and made every bad decision at every turn and never really tried to win. Had and fired a Hall of Fame basketball coach.

Finally put money in the program under an incapable coach when we had advantages.  Now other have caught up/surpassed.

At least DeVries gets the program when the majority of the fanbase has again lessened its expectations as a whole.  I like him. I want  him to do great.  I also want him to have top resources which is why he came to Indiana in the first place.
