Timmons is the son of former NFL linebacker Lawrence Timmons.

His dad was a specimen, wasn’t he? One of those 6’3” 240lb OLB types? I don’t know why but it always makes me laugh when one of those kids gets the Bronny James bad genetic luck.

His dad was, yes.

how do you know he'll play S?

I read it somewhere that we were recruiting him for that position. I don't recall where and honestly, I might be confusing him with another recruit. I'm now having a hard time finding where I read it, unfortunately. He plays pretty much all the backer positions (including LB). His versatility will be utilized for sure. Hopefully he signs with us and we get to cheer for him on Saturdays.

baller23 on the other forum mentioned it this morning as well.

Hopefully we are able to keep him and all of our recruits for that matter.

This recruitment will likely take some more work.  He just got an offer from his Pop's school, Florida State.

Update: This one doesn't look good: "It feels great. I came here last year as a freshman with one offer from Akron. I've been here four times now. This has been a dream since I was a kid. I've never been a big sports fan but I've always been a Florida State fan. It's crazy. It's a great feeling. It could possibly switch things around. Indiana is home right now but we'll see what happens," Timmons told Noles247.

FSU is making a push now and ON3 is predicting a flip to FSU

Well, it’s bound to happen sometime and if it does so be it.  Speaks to the quality of IU fb recruits now versus years gone by.  I dare say IU has pulled some recruits away and will continue to do so as long as Coach Cignetti and staff are here.  :)

The flip is official.  I'm glad this happened earlier enough in the cycle for the staff to pivot and prioritize.

I often wonder why football players even bother announcing commitments since they just seem to be more of who the current leader is since flipping in football is so common.

Good for him getting to play for his dream school. One thing that seemed odd was he says he's never been a big sports fan yet he's going to be a high major college player.

Not sure.  My guess is they like securing a spot and with the optionality to go somewhere else, plus it's a bit of a signal to other schools if players want it to be.  It's a pretty good deal for the player.

I would guess our staff knew this was a risk.  We'll win some flips and lose some flips, so personally this doesn't bother me too much.

Recruits definitely break their commits too often, but I suppose programs also make some promises they don't keep too.  It's all a mess and I'm glad I don't work in this world of recruiting.

I was hoping with rev share things would move from commitment announcements to signing announcements (as in signing a binding contract).  These guys are paid now, so just sign the contract like any other professional would.  That doesn't seem to be the case though, we still have commitment periods up until a signing day.  And therefore, we can't get too excited until signing day.

The new approach to college athletics, gets seedier by the day.

It also means there might be hope Jay Timmons decides not to sign with FSU.
