Next Years Team

He shot 36% from 3 as a freshman. Probably close to 40 on spot ups.

No offense, but you don’t put up those splits if your assessment of his mechanics is correct. He can’t shoot of the dribble but there’s nothing wrong with his shot on a catch and shoot.

He was a team low 86 offensive efficiency as a freshman. Worst on team. He turned the ball over 25% of the time he touched the ball. He didn’t beat defenders off the dribble.
I just don’t think he’s worth the investment. He’s a good kid. I don’t know why we should pay him when we don’t even know if he fits the new system.

This will be exciting in a couple of weeks. We'll learn alot about our new staff. It's going to be interesting to see who he targets once the portal really breaks loose. I'm visualizing a roster similar to Iowa States the last two years. Hopefully he puts an emphasis on big, physical guards.

I agree. Let him go. I also don’t think he’s good. It’s time to get serious about winning and players who are about the team. We can get so many better guards

All things you’d expect out of a big ten backup forced to start as a true freshman. He should go. DD needs a top 10 roster.

But I was just addressing your claim he couldn’t shoot. Not really true, minus his horrid sideways fade off the dribble

A guy on HSN posted this idea and thought I would share it here. Prioritize how you would fill the 13 scholarships. Something fun to do while we wait on news.

1.Portal starting PG

2.Portal starting center

3. Tucker Devries

4.Braylon Mullins(flip this young man)

5. Portal starting 2 guard

6.Luke Goode

7.Amani Hansberry

8. Jonathan Powell

9.Kelvin Odih

10.Portal bench pg(Connor Enright?)

11. P0rtal bench big

12.Sincere Harris

13. Trent McLean/ Dezmon Briscoe??

Obviously new names will pop up but who do you want right now?

Not bad, but ya better add Sisley.

Let’s get

1. Thornton….why not lol

2. Conwell

3. Mullins

4. DeVries.

5. I haven’t made up my mind on a 5.  I think that guy from Penn State is sneaky good.  But not sure I’d want him as our starter.

6. Goode

7. Sisley

8. Powell would be good

9. Big man/starter or backup.

10. a rebounding, tough 4.

11 backup PG

I’m not even sure I love my own list.  Want more Dogs. Gotta find those guys.

Are we assuming none of the WVU players (other than his son) or his signed recruits would come?  Does that bode poorly for DD if none are following him or are they not that good?

My list isn’t realistic at all.  I’m just playing semi reasonable fantasy CBB here.  I think Powell could be an option although i could see him go to Ohio State with Cupps to reunite.

My thinking is we need a big upgrade over that West Virginia team. That team was okay but Small was their best player by a landslide.   Small seems out of availability.  Should we fill some spots with his guys?  Maybe. Can we do that with a lot of other guys. Definitely.  I don’t think there’s anyone from the WV roster that’s a must have.

Haven't been on as much this week (Spring Break) but my biggest takeaway listening to DeVries is this: I don't think he's going to bring it a bunch of the highest ranked portal guys. His son, if healthy, will be one of the best pickups in the country. For the sake of this years team, he may have to bring in a few more of the top guys. That being said, it's clear he's going after fit. Take Enright as an example. It probably won't excite a lot, but he could be a guy that sees 20-25 minutes a game. I don't think it's a coincidence all our guards have decided to transfer out.

For the future, I don't think we will see what we saw two years ago with all the 5 stars visiting (Harper, Queen, McNeeley, Fland, etc). I have a feeling he's going to go after guys ranked in the 50-100 range and maybe an occasional one and done if it makes sense.

I looked up this portal class and one service had them 6th and the other 8th. Louisville was outside of the top 10. Goes to show you what they knew. If TD doesn't go down it's a 22-23 win team. I think he'll be better this time around. Baileys skillet is completely different than any of the bigs on that roster, he's planning to play a little differently perhaps.

Thanks for the info and "Baileys skillet" sounds delicious.
