IU vs #1 UCLA: Noon 1/4/25 Fox

Recommended Posts

Heheheheeeeeee…

The #1 team nationally, the UCLA Bruins come to what will likely be an extremely packed Assembly Hall next Saturday for a nationally televised game.

A hunch that UCLA has absolutely NO idea what they’re in for— this is going to be a fantastic afternoon for IU basketball and Hoosier Nation.

UCLA is not a fast-paced, explosive team. So it’s gonna be some bombs away, balcony shaking awesomeness.

New poll is out, confirming that the big, bad Bruins will come into SSAH as the No. 1-ranked team in the land.

I get that we had two pretty bad losses to Harvard and Butler, then the smackdown by UNC -- but we've played pretty well since then. But not one voting point -- not one person voted us No. 25 in the latest poll.

I'm not necessarily a big believer in bulletin board material -- but I hope this puts a rather large chip on our shoulder. How much fun would it be to knock off No. 1 -- as an UNRANKED team.

LET'S GO!!!

Voters tend to not like teams that can't score. If we had scored 20 more points against Butler and UNC and still lost by the same margins, we'd probably have at least a few votes now. Anybody seeing 46 and 39 for our scores will probably react with "WTF" and be inclined to pick someone else.

IU Ladies wanting better results than Nebraska vs UCLA at UCLA;  the first game this week.   Second game Michigan at UCLA and then long flight to a week long prepped rested IU Ladies team with a Y.G.?? and IU gym atmosphere. (more accurate)

Rebound the basketball and defense.  And of course make shots and score.  (Note:  UCLA 26 turnovers vs Nebraska and still won by 37)

Possibility of a shining moment for IU Ladies.

UCLA coach C. Close…being up 7 after 3 quarters and 16 point win vs Michigan at home gives her team warning to play harder at Indiana or they will lose (15 turnovers vs Michigan). (One player Jones=three 3 pointers in 4th)

See what happens:  long flight but deep talent, UCLA winning last couple at home, and after hard work by Indiana in their play, does UCLA just come down and make shots?  Plus does UCLA use IU crowd to energize themselves or not?

Best case scenario for us is probably staying as close as Washington did (73-62). They've been vaporizing everyone in their path and I could see us getting way behind right out of the gate.

The best case scenario is doing to them in the Hall what we've done to #5 Iowa, #4 Iowa and #2 Ohio State the past few years in the Hall; splash threes, dominate, and beat them by double digits.

Hopefully without students on campus there's enough turnout to pack the Hall.

Opening line was UCLA -7.5 and has already jumped to 9.5.

Now 10.5. Are we sure we're at full strength? I don't disagree that they could beat us by double digits, but that line jumped up in a hurry.
