Player 'A'

• 12.9 mpg, 5.5 ppg on .646 fg% and .627 ft%, 3.0 rpg, 1.2 bpg.

Player 'B'

• 13.1 mpg, 6.4 ppg on .590 fg% and .577 ft%, 4.0 rpg, 1.6 bpg.

 

Who do you like? Pretty identical if the quality of competition is identical?

I saw it floating on X that we have around 12 million, which is concerning.

I know Player B is Mara. Is A Jacobsen at Purdue? If so, I like his potential. I would never spend $3+ million on him in the portal though.

Yes, I think Indiana has put itself in a position that we need to overpay. Sadly, but surely. 
 

But ultimately it’s to have enough money to get the talent you identify and win the battles for the guys you want. Identify a guy, then have the resources to get that guy. Thats the dream scenario.

I also know you can’t have the #1 guy at every position.  But you need guys that man for man can compete at that type of level at each position. 
 

I also think Indiana needs some off season juice.  For the fans, for the recruits, for the media, for the basketball world. Gonna have to spend to create that because we didn’t do it organically like Michigan last year, Iowa this year, etc

I’d say whatever the number, it’s enough for a good coach to get us into the tournament.

Dusty May saw the potential in Mara, but that evaluation wasn't a given.

Purdue players don’t transfer but I do like Jacobsen quite a bit. I’ll go on record there. He isn’t Edey.  But he can be really good. The injury set him back a little. But if we had 3 bigs I’d be happy for him to be in the rotation.

IU had the money to beat out UK for Wilkerson. Had the money for Bailey to beat out UNC, Texas, and a few other suitors. Conerway had a ton of SEC offers. DeVries wasn't cheap. IU has the money to spend, but with the exception of Wilkerson, the wrong guys were identified.

If it's $12M that is pretty good -- up about 20% from last season.  Especially for a program that's done diddly poo for a decade.

If we can't put together a solid team with that much money we're toast no matter how much we spend.

Sam Alexis was also properly identified; he would have been a pretty good 15-20 minute per game big if Bailey's failures hadn't necessitated him starting.

retention of Tschetter, Burnett (starter), Gayle (6th man) + two freshman Cason/McKenney collectively in the $1.5-$2mil range. So you're looking at around $9-10mil for Michigan compared to IU's ~$10mil. It's close. Michigan got way more out of their secondary and rotational pieces than IU.
